After reading the comments on a recent M&M's quiz, I decided it was high time that I sample the new limited-edition Coconut M&M's from Mars.
Once a beloved snack of mine, I was around the candies so much in a former life that I ate myself sick of them. But these could be a different story. "Coconut M&M's? That's crazy!" a coworker said in passing. Indeed, it was. Upon glancing at the package, which featured the sultry Green M&M basking in the sun with a flower behind her ear, I immediately envisioned candy-covered morsels filled with flaky, sweet coconut, Mounds style. Did they live up to my expectations? Keep reading.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag, which weighs less than a traditional package of M&M's, was that the candies — which are green, white, and brown — were larger and plumper. But I was disappointed when I bit in, only to find there was no coconut filling. After glancing at the ingredients (lactose, milkfat, soy lethicin, artificial flavors) I realized an artificial coconut flavor was simply mixed into the chocolate-candy interior.
While I wish I'd encountered a genuine coconut filling instead, I was impressed by the shell, which is significantly crunchier than a regular M&M's. I also enjoyed the chocolate formula's moist-mouth feel, although I couldn't tell if it simply tasted creamier since there was more of it. To those of you who've tried these limited-edition treats, what did you think of them?

I freaking love em! I'm turning into a junkie.
1These are SO yummy!! I am a sucker for new products so I had to try them! I was not disappointed!
2O I can't wait.
3I'm not a fan of coconut so I may not like these.
4I thought they were great! They reminded me very much of a Mounds bar, loved it and will be looking for more! Has anyone tried the Strawberry/Peanut Butter M&Ms yet? I'm very curious but haven't been able to find a small bag yet.
5I preferred the mint crispy ones which were released for Indiana Jones. Those babies were delicious!
6shellbelle, I tried the P&J ones and wasn't impressed. They were like these...larger with more filling, but something tasted very....artificial-y. And I ADOREEEEEEE peanut butter. But I wasn't impressed at all
7Oh sad, I was hoping they'd be good, kind of like a pb&j sandwich with a little chocolate on the side.
8Love 'em! I'm hoping they decide to keep them in the line up. It does bring problems though - now I'm forced to choose between my beloved dark choclate or these.
9Mars makes M&M's, not Hersheys!
10Shellbell, I tried them too and was grossed out. Very artificial tasting. My husband didn't seem to mind - he finished the bag. But it was after work, maybe he was just hungry, lol.
11I almost tried the coconut M&Ms, but I decided not to. I only like real coconut in candy, so I probably wouldn't have been too impressed with these. I really like the peanut butter M&Ms, so I was sort of hoping the PB&J ones would be good, but now I'm having second thoughts on those too.
12I loved the mint ones! These ones taste a little bit like suntan lotion to me.
13Anonymous, d'oh! That's what I meant! Thanks for the catch.
14They're pretty doggone good. Too bad being a diabolical diabetic keeps me from enjoying these TOO much. lol
15I don't like Mars' or Hershey's chocolate. I find their quality questionable. Their chocolates have the oddest after-taste. The texture is awful, too. Perhaps I have a very sensitive palette.
I've tasted finer chocolates (with better price points) elsewhere.
16i love them and can't find them any where!!!
17Mmmmmm....coconut.... mounds....
Too bad these don't have a coconut texture inside.
That would have been great!
I agree with GlowingMoon, Hershy's and Mars chocolate here in America has a funny aftertaste, but in Europe the chocolate is different. My friend was higly allergic to chocolate here in U.S. but when she moved to Hungary she was surprised that she wasn't allergic to the chocolate there. Mmmm... Bounty... just like Mounds but...so much more.
18Not a fan of fake coconut, worse than that is fake banana flavor. Why fake it, it always tastes crappier to me?!
No, I have not tried them and I probably won't.
19must try.
20I've only tried them once, but I did love them. I had 4 actually, not even a whole bag... lol
21Was excited when I first saw this story but when I read on and saw they were only coconut "flavored", um, not so sure I will be buying. Mounds is my all time favorite candy and I think I would be disappointed. My favorite M&M's were the limited edition peanut butter Shrek ones when the last movie came out!! OMG, they were twice the size of the regular ones and filled with so much yummy creamy peanut butter filling.
22I'd like to try these- I tried the strawberry peanut butter ones a few weeks ago and they were tasty. My faves are the dark chocolate plain M&Ms
23I want coconut m&M I love them they are so good, please bring them back!! PLEASE!!!
I cant find them anywhere!!!
24Even if you don't like artificial coconut like me....you may find these will surprise you!! I didn't notice an artificial flavor or aftertaste at all! These are fantastic and I hope they will keep them out as part of the regular line! LOVE EM!!
25Right now I am eating a bag and I love them so much. I wish I had another bag. Of coarse, I am a coconut lover and a chocolate lover. Other people I know that don't even really like candy love these.
