Wine snobs all over the country are still fuming over a blind tasting in which Charles Shaw's 2005 Chardonnay was voted the best tasting California Chardonnay by the judges at the California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition. You may have heard this already, but so many people have been asking me about it that I couldn't let it go unnoticed! The shocking results were leaked on June 28th and declared "Two Buck Chuck" - as the wine is affectionately called due to its $1.99 price tag - the highest scoring white wine. The official verdict shows that 64 judges awarded "Two Buck Chuck" the prestigious Double Gold award, placing it first over 350 other Chardonnays, and in the top of the entire pack of 3,029 wines.
There are those who feel that the results should not be taken into account as the judges are not true, trained wine professionals.
The California State Fair competition is dismissed by some critics as representing broad-based consumer tastes rather than the palates of true wine connoisseurs.
Whether the outcome will be taken seriously or not, one thing can be certain, thousands of cases of this Chardonnay will be purchased. To be a part of the hype head to your local Trader Joe's and taste for yourself. At just $1.99 a bottle, you can buy one for all of your friends!

My mom just bought the two buck Chuck Shiraz and Cab this weekend at Trader Joe's... We haven't opened them yet, has anyone else tried these?
1the two buck chuck chardonnay is a pretty decent wine. and it's only $2... how can you go wrong?
2LOL I know a girl who swears by that stuff.
3$2 wine? Frankly, any wine that insanely cheap scares me. Have not tried this though since there are no Trader Joes in TX.
4Its $3 outside of California, but still cheap. Actually, I shop at Trader Joes and always pick this up. Its surprisingly very good, you would never guess it was so cheap. They must do something to keep cost down, as they do with all their other items.
5I like the Chardonnay and Sauv Blanc the best.
I think it is silly to suggest that the results are less meaningful because they aren't trained wine professionals. It is merely a different type of result and the average wine drinker should be represented just like the connoisseur is. There should be a lot of different wines out there to please the diverse palettes of wine drinkers.
6Wow. I will have to try it.
7wow. i'm new to wine, but i've always been afraid to try it b/c they're insanely cheap. but now, i think i'll go and have to try it. it'll be good for my wallet, that's for sure.
8I've never had it, but I think that this story is great!
9I have tried the Merlot and think it tastes just fine
10I've had the Shiraz, Merlot, and Cab. The Shiraz left a bit to be desired, but the Merlot and Cab were actually quite lovely!
11the merlot is great for dying fabric! makes a beautiful vintage pink!
12velvetavalon, did you discover that on accident or on purpose? hehe. I'm gonna have to try that!
13I LOVE LOVE LOVE Two Buck Chuck! In Ohio it's actually $3.49 buck chuck but still uber cheap! I've purchased a case for around $35 and it was great to have on hand for entertaining. If anyone is worried that their guests will think of them as being cheap just pour the bottle into a decanter and enjoy!
14is soo good. i must have had 4 bottles a day when we were in cali.
15I LOVE 2 buck chuck!!! ♥ Although it is $3 here in Vegas. I have not tried the Chardonnay, but will have to get it the next time I go to TJ's.
