This little guy does a simple task and will only set you back $3. I wouldn't exactly call it "necessary," but it's still a good idea. To find out what it is, read more
This device is called a Ceramic Pot Minder and it's meant to help keep your pots from boiling over. Just simply place it into the bottom of your pot when cooking or warming pasta, soups, vegetables or milk. When the liquid starts boiling, he'll start clanging around reminding you to tend to your cooking.

Lipsy
Moschino
That's intersting and I definitely need one.
I love those things. I could have used one this weekend. I left a 1/4 filled boiling pot for less than a minute and when I came back it was all over the range. Anyone know how to clean the caked on mess on a range?
Finally! A kitchen gadget for us flakes! So many times I've been working in the kitchen, step out for a second and - oh, look what at the squirrel.
lol interesting! wouldn't have guessed it was that!
For some reason i thought it was that little terra cotta thing you put in your brown sugar bag to keep the brown sugar soft and moist.
But will it keep me from burning my tomato soup?
I thought it was a brown sugar thing too
its a good idea. but its ugly.
Never heard of it, but cool! I love the "what is this" game...even though I never know any of them. LOL
I am looking for those little discs you put in with the brown sugar, to keep it from drying out. Anyone know where I can purchase one?
Clever. I wonder if there are other designs.
cute
And I thought I was the only one to go and put water on to boil and then lose track of time i.e. whoops I'll just check what's going on with Sugar and oh no!
I had one of those brown sugar ones you guys are talking about. It didn't work. I read you can tear off a small piece of white bread and throw it inside your brown sugar. I tried it, and it works great! I'd try that before buying the brown sugar terra cotta thing.
wow, thats an interesting little fella.
Thanks, bluesuze! I will try the white bread suggestion!
That is pretty cool.
I have something similar from pampered chef.
I really think that it is just another piece of junk to add to your kitchen. It is neat but where do you get the storage for this? I don't think that it is a necessity, just pay attention when you are cooking.
i'm guessing you have to take it out then?? and not just cook with it in there? haha, i know that would take like 20 seconds, but it just seems like a pain to me. i hate waiting for water to boil, i always check it like 6 times! so maybe this would actually free me to just sit at the table and read my book while I wait..I have the opposite of the problem it is trying to combat!
I thought it was an antacid tablet. Probably because I just ate too much and need one.
i thought it was a jar opener or cover
lol
or maybe even a can cover...
LucaBella: you can buy a brown sugar disc at Sur la table. I have one in the brown sugar at my vacation house and it works wonders!
Thank you , party sugar! I will check it out! Might just be what I was looking for!!
I've always wanted one of those!
Me, too, Haze1nut!! =D Looks just like one, doesn't it? This is pretty good ... but doesn't help if I've stepped out of the kitchen - aka - out of hearing range, lol. Oh well - maybe I'll get a timer to clip to my belt or something for that ... yeah right, I can't remember where I put the keys, much less remember THAT.
wow.... really!?
that'd be good for me too.
Wouldn't this cause the water or soup or whatever to take a much longer time to boil? I stand over the water and wait what feels like hours for it boil
. I think maybe something you drop in that makes the water boil real fast,
like the things they put in MREs (those food packs the military takes with them) would be great.
wow..i thought it was one of those brown sugar preserver things..
insteresting!
LOL uhm, I just bring a book in the kitchen with me and keep an eye on my stuff myself.
bread warmer?
Hmm. I usually go by the sound of the contents hitting the hot burner.
So cool!
Interesting, but now I'm all interested in the brown sugar discs!
I would love to have one haha.
To hear that clanging around would scare the bejeezus out of me.
::Another way to avoid boiling over:::
Add a bit of olive oil to your boiling water, it breaks the surface tension.
awww, I thought it was the brown sugar guy!! I always wondered how he worked.
the piece of bread works wonders for brown sugar. just leave it in there overnight, and the brown sugar will have absorbed all the moisture from the bread, thereby making it soft again, and the piece of bread will be hard and stale. an easy and simple fix.
