One of the weirdest things about globalization is how everything is the same and yet totally different. You'd think that no matter where you go, a McDonald's would be a McDonald's right? Wrong! If you've never been to an International McDonald's, you might not know what you're missing. For example, in
Germany you can order a Big McFeast and a cup of beer, whereas in Norway you can opt for the McLaks - a sandwich made from grilled salmon and dill sauce. Personally I love how you can get an Ebi (shrimp) burger in Japan, and rice burgers in Hong Kong and Taiwan. How about you, have you ever discovered anything interesting on an International McDonald's menu?

This almost gives me a reason to step into a McDs in another country. Just to see the menu. Id much prefer to sample the local cuisine.
1At the McDonalds in Halifax, Nova Scotia you can order a McLobster. Ummm... Lobster sandwich.
2My girl friend is from Dubai, and her father works for McDonald's in the Middle East. Apparently, there is a McArabia sandwich, which I think she said was a pita with chicken... sounds tasty!!
3On a recent trip to Mexico, my family and I stopped at McD's before a long drive to the ruins. We discovered the Egg McMuffin ala Mexicana. It was the same basic concept of the Egg McMuffin, but salsa was cooked into the scrambled eggs and refried beans were spread on top of the muffin! Also, it took really long to get, so I think they actually made them to order and didn't have them premade. I really wish they offered that here!
4Samari Pork Burger in Thailand - loved the name, the burger itself didn't look so great
McAussie (I think that is was it's called) in Australia - basically a quarter pounder with the addition of sliced beets (and lettuce and tomato), I think they also had fried prawns
In all the other countries I've been to, I have to admit that I've gone to McDonalds but have just read enough of the menu to see if they have my standard chicken mcnuggets!
5It was definitely a surprise to me seeing Beer on the McD's menus in London and Paris. And of course thanks to Pulp Fiction it's always cool to see a Royale with Cheese!
6I'm not a fan of McDonalds and I've never been to an Internation McDonalds. But in Hawaii they had spam and rice. I thought that was kinda cool and different, because I grew up eating that stuff during weekend breakfasts with my family.
7when i was in paris they had these like potato wedge fries that were all spiced and delish on the menu, much thicker and bigger than the regular kind
8Years ago, in Rome, McD's had a salad bar with tons of different salads: rice salad, caprese salad, tuna salad, etc. The ones that I tried were delicious! They also sold gelato.
9When I was in Italy, I fell in love with the Crispy McBacon Sandwich. It's a double cheeseburger with bacon and bigmac sauce. Sometimes I order it special here at home.
10In Moscow they had fish nuggets (sorry, I don't remember what they called them)! They were beer battered chinks of salmon - oi they were good!
11In Moscow they had fish nuggets (sorry, I don't remember what they called them)! They were beer battered chinks of salmon - oi they were good!
12It seems like forever ago, but I remember when I went to London in high school and they had seasoned curly fries (ala Arby's) at McDonalds. I went back in college and I was a fan of their veggie burger- had a lil' hint of curry to it, if I remember correctly. I usually try to dodge American fast food when traveling abroad, but I was in a bind.
13When we went to McDonald's in Germany, we had to buy the ketchup packets - they didn't just give them to us.
14I studied in Argentina in 2001, and remember getting Dulce de Leche ice cream at Mc Ds, and I think also milenesa. Plus i know they had a burger named after the region, but I cant recall the correct name. When I was a kid, McDs used to serve a Texas style burger (havent been there if forever to see if they still do.)
15My ex Spanish boyfriend loved going to McDonalds for snacks. I didn't mind because he would get his food fix and I would get a mini glass of beer!
16KFC in Hong Kong has fish.
17On Guam -
Mickey D's has a breakfast meal called the "portuguese sausage, eggs, and rice."
At KFC, you can get Guamanian red rice with your meal instead of mashed potatoes
Mmm.mmm... good.
18in philippines, mcdonalds sell spaghetti
19omgosh dee- that's awesome! do they have rice at the mcdonalds in the philippines? lol!
20Actually, this isn't international and it's kinda been mentioned, but in Maine you can also get lobster rolls from McDonalds.
21I think Peruvian McDonalds had some interesting additions to their menu as well, but I never got to go in!
22I've only eaten at a McDonald's in London and Switzerland. They were pretty similar. So was the Burger King in Switzerland. But in my high school german class, we had a poster on the wall of a german McDonald's menu and yep, beer was on it!
23Italian McDonald's carry a sandwich called the McPink, which is some sort of pork sandwich. I don't know if they still carry it, but the idea of a pork sandwich from McDonald's is a bit unsavory . . . especially in a county where the national cuisine doesn't require a lot of pork . . .
24In the Philippines, McDonald's has spaghetti and chicken and rice. They also have more variety on their breakfast menu. The other thing I noticed is that international McDonald's don't feel like the McDonald's in the US...they're a little bit more homey and definitely a lot cleaner.
25in haifa, israel they have McSchwarmas... didnt eat any though. i prefer the original version
26WOW, I feel so bland. I've only ever had US mcd's. I need to get out more. These are awesome things to read.
27I just remember how shocked I was when I was a student in London and was charged for ketchup at McDonald's!
28Ebi is actually shrimp, not eel. I've been to a few Chinese McDonalds, but the only sort of different menu item was the pie--you could get pineapple, taro, and red bean. At the KFCs you can get Peking Duck inspired wraps--fried chicken, lettuce, cucumber, green onion, and plum sauce. They are so, so good, and so, so bad for you.
29ender - omg! i can't believe that i wrote eel! ebi is one of my favorite things to order, i have no idea why i got that wrong. thanks for pointing that out, i've fixed it.
30You know, I think it may have been that it made me think of uni (eel) and whether or not an eel-burger would taste as delicious as I think it might.
31I had a cup of corn in a McDs Hong Kong. It was good.
32In Thailand, instead of apple pie, you can get either pineapple or taro pies!
33in taiwan you can substitute french fries for corn soup (chowder)
34In Hawaii, you can get a Portuguese sausage and egg sandwich...yummy!
35They don't sell beer in the McDs in London. Contrary to a comment someone above said.
36In Athens they had gyros on the menus although I'd imagine they aren't as delicious as the ones you can get from street vendors. The McDonalds I went to in Sweden had wayyy too many fish entree's...something sort of suspicious about mass produced fish to me so I never did try any.
37In Hawaii they have Portuguese Sausage (chorizo) breakfast sandwiches and Taro (instead of apple) pies
38In the New Zealand the McDonalds was promoting the return of their Kiwiburger. It is a cheeseburger with beets and an egg patty. It turns out, beets aren't half bad on burgers; they are kind of like pickles.
39in Colombia people would only go to McD's to buy ice cream, and the lines would be super long. So they created a separate "McCafe" where you can get the ice cream cones (and they also have chocolate, or chocolate coverd vanilla), sundaes, coffee, and other desserts!
And they recently came out with a kid's dish that's kind of cute. Chicken fingers - they come on a plate in the shape of a hand, and there's chicken in each finger with a dipping sauce in the palm! It's not crispy fried chicken so I've gotten it a couple of times, but it doesn't come with french fries
And I think in most international McDonalds the portions are smaller. A supersize is like a US medium.
40I love "Mega Mac" and "Mega Teriyaki" which are really big!!
41Are these special burgers in your country, too?
McAussie (I think that is was it's called) in Australia - basically a quarter pounder with the addition of sliced beets (and lettuce and tomato), I think they also had fried prawns
Never had prawns in it but it was basically the normal burger
42I forget the name but dont think it was McAussie either
In the Philippines they have McSpaghetti! It's actually really good.
There's also fried chicken, rice that they wrap like a burger, and in the mornings they have rice, egg, and adobo flakes (a Filipino traditional dish).
43In Turkey they sell a McTurco in chicken and beef which are those meats in a pide with special sause, tomatoes, lettuce and onion. They are really good. They also sell the local yoghurt drink called ayran.
44They should consider selling some of the other countries menu items in America. Some of them certainly SOUND healthier.
45FYI McDonald's in Australia does not and has never had prawns on the menu. Fried or otherwise.
46Aww...the comments are making me want to go globe trotting just to sample McD's food from different countries now. Haha.
47In Hawaii a few years ago I saw the McTeri on the menu ... a teriyaki hamburger that I still regret not trying. It's funny, Japanese food in general is so popular there, and teriyaki in particular, that they shorten it to "teri."
48That pic with the rice bun looks so good! I wonder how you would make a bun out of rice...ideas anyone?
49I wish they made some of those international items in the US, I might visit McD's more (other than hangover McGriddle days), especially the mexican breakfast McMuffin, yum!
I studied abroad in Perth (Australia) and London - I NEVER saw beer on the menu - or else i'd have gotten it and been overjoyed! I remember the beets on the burger in Aus, but I never heard/saw anything about prawns. I also remember what everyone is saying about paying for Ketchup - we used to ask for extra Ketchup and they'd give us 3 more packets. By extra I mean at least 10!!!
