The biggest buzz all over the blogosphere is deep-fried butter. Even though it's nothing new β apparently Paula Deen's sung the praises of it before β it's one of eight contenders vying for the Big Tex Choice Award at this year's State Fair of Texas. "Pure butter is whipped, then injected with different flavors, surrounded by dough and fried," described The Dallas Morning News.
I'll try anything once, but I'm pretty sure this invention has taken deep-fried food one step too far. At 810 calories per stick β and that's before it's been deep-fried β I'm pretty sure even the biggest butter lover, Julia Child, would find it a bit obscene. Would you eat it?

Oh wow, that just sounds completely disgusting!
1I may take a bite out of curiosity, but that's all.
2Absolutely! Butter goooooooood! But I think more than a bite (two if it was nummy) would be a little much.
3wow, that's crazy!
4Only in Texas........deep fry capital of the world.
5I don't know that I could stomach just straight fried butter...
)
6Now at my state fair, they do fried oreos.... that's delish! (only once a year though, I swear!
I literally gagged when I saw the title! So if I can't stomach the title, I have no faith that my stomach would be able to handle eating it.
7I don't understand.
8Doesn't the butter melt?
How do they deep fry butter? I appreciate butter and its uses in dishes, but yeah, to make it into a snack stick? LOL. Well, I'd probably try it out once (curiosity always gets to me
).
9I think they actually chill the butter so it's on the firm side, then coat it in a batter, and deep fry that quickly. That's just my guess, since I haven't tried it.
10No way, wouldn't try it.. just the thought of eating butter turns my stomach.
11No, the thought of it is nauseating.
12Heck yeah I'd try it! You only go around once, why not?
13i would try it but i am pretty sure i would feel sick after.
14Instead of unavailing this at a state fair, wouldn't a more appropriate (& safer) venue be the cardiology wing of the Cleavland Clinic?
15fattening? the option for "no" actually says fattening? that's the last thing i'm thinking about when "deep fried butter" comes to mind. how about "disgusting" "heart attack" and "vomit-inducing"
16I thought the same thing, TidalWave! Butter is a great product and serves many functions in lots of dishes/preparations but this sounds completely revolting! What a complete waste of food...How do they even come up with these things!?
17I had deep-fried ice cream before. I guess the method would be identical. And the ice cream was not to bad at all.
18well, when you make ghee for indian cooking, its clarifying butter, where they melt butter and purify it by straining it through a sieve. i dont think thats the same as fried butter, but thats really good.
19eeeep. my heart and stomach just grimaced. i love trying new things (just slurrped my first oyster last weekened)but this just doesn't look right lol.
20When I say I'll try it, it's 1 bite, not the entire abomination. Instead of deep fried butter, it seems like you'll be eating dough that has oil in two sides, inside and out. I doubt even the most pure of butter lovers is going to straight up eat melted butter, or butter that's still solid after deep frying it. If that were the case, then it would be less work to eat straight butter or melted butter. And that's nasty.
21Yeah, I don't think I could even try this. I am all for indulgences, but that kind of makes me sick to just think about it. I can do deep fried OR butter, but not deep fried butter. No way.
22That sounds disgusting. My niece eats butter (by itself) and it is so gross. She asked me to get her a piece of butter once and i said no you can't eat butter and so she asked her mom and her mom (my SIL) got it for her
23No. Holy crow, just... no. This baffles me when we are at a time when more healthy choices should be the norm... not a novelty.
24Just the thought of that sends my gall bladder into spasms. I don't know if I could get it past my gag reflex to have it be "fattening", lol.
25Why the heck butter!? yuck.
26I love butter, but this is just silly.
27And I must be getting old the print is really small on here today and yes, I have my reading glasses on.
barf.
28I might try a small taste but not a lot.
