Got (one percent) milk? The Daily Mail reports that after a British watchdog organization cautioned against excessive intake of saturated fat, sales of one percent milk have skyrocketed in the United Kingdom. The Food Standards Agency warned that whole milk can lead to heart disease and clogged arteries, so shoppers swapped out whole milk in exchange for one percent, which contains more flavor than skim milk. It now accounts for 10 percent of sales.
I'm surprised to hear that people have just started switching from whole milk in Britain, considering whole milk fell out of favor years ago in the States. Do you drink whole milk?

All Saints
I gave up milk about a year ago, in an effort to keep my skin clear [SOOOO hard to do, I was a milk FIEND!] but I used to drink 1% and 2%. I still sneak a little bit of milk every now and then, I get very intense cravings for it sometimes, but I mostly drink soy milk now.
1Soy or rice milk for me.
2I love whole milk - but being lactose intolerant, it doesn't love me. I do love, however, Lactaid Fat-Free milk with added calcium. That's just yum in a glass all by itself. (Or with Carnation Instant Breakfast)
3Soy mostly (So Nice) but occasionally rice or almond... when I drank actual milk it was skim, I could stand 1% but 2% & whole taste like heavy cream.
4Only whole leche con my bacon wrapped dogs!
5Soy milk.
6I was addicted to whole milk (thanks to my-then baby son--and nursing LOL), but my hub said that whole milk makes him 'plateau' (he gained weight and tried to lose it back then), plus he preferred the 'taste' of 2% plus he's now the no.1 milk-drinker in the family (he can drink glasses of glasses outside putting 'em in his coffee). So we've been on 2% for the last couple of years.
7My son and I sometimes drink soy milk too though, like twice a month we bought the vanilla ones and downed 'em in a day LOL.
I don't drink milk but I buy 1.5% lactose reduced milk for my coffee & baking/cooking.
8Only whole milk.
9I don't drink a lot of milk because it doesn't agree with me. I buy skim milk because my husband prefers it and I use it when I cook.
10i drink unsweetened hemp milk or coconut milk.
11soy never was a big milk drinker and my 1yr old is allergic to dairy so no milk at all
12Soy.
13Unsweetened Almond Milk all the way here.
14fat free or 1%.
15vanilla soy = yum.
16Raw whole milk.
17And saturated fats are not the enemy.
I'm not a huge milk person but I do eat it with cereal. My milk of choice is Schneider's Super Skim milk. It's non-fat but it tastes like 2%.
18I drink soy or oat milk. But if I'm baking then I might (might!) use cow's milk.
19always skim for me has been since I was a kid
20rice and soy!
212%, skim and soy, we drink a variety at my house.
22I switched to skim milk about 5 years ago. The whole family drinks it.
23I prefer the taste of 1%, but it upsets my stomach, so I switched to skim. I've figured out that it isn't psychosomatic, but I haven't heard of the percentage of fat affecting tolerance . . . Oh well, so long as I can still use it in my coffee
I make cold-brew coffee that's
really strong, so that I can get all the coffee flavor with a LOT of milk, and get a good bit of calcium in there too!
24Raw whole milk (have a cow share, legal in Colorado) or soy/rice milk.
25I only drink whole milk. Everything else taste like water to me.
26Lactose intolerant here too, plus other food allergies, so only soy milk for me. Before I would always drink 2% though and loved it.
27I grew up drinking skim, but my husband was repulsed by the very idea; he wanted 2%. So we compromised and got 1%. Then I realized that he never touches the milk anyway. I haven't switched back to skim, though I think I should one of these days.
28I drink soymilk, regular doesn't seem to agree with me even though I'm not lactose intolerant.
29skim lactaid.
30I drink soy. I've tried to switch to rice or almond milk but always go back to soy. Ill drink a splash of 2% in my coffee because it doesnt add flavor like soy does. Also, hyzenthlay20 Im the same way. If I drink too much 2% then it hurts my stomach, but if I have even a little bit of cream, half and half, whip cream or any milk product with a high fat content it kills me.
31I've lived in the UK for the past few years. When I first moved here the only milk choices were whole, semi-skimmed (2%) and skim. Now there is 1% available but it's only at one chain of supermarkets. This chain doesn't have a branch in my neighborhood so I have skim at home. Luckily the office kitchen stocks 1% and that's where I eat my daily bowl of cereal.
I've also recently replaced my daily latte with green tea and soy milk and found a vast reduction in digestive problems. Maybe I should bite the bullet and go totally soy.
322%
Can't eat cookies without it.
33Skim milk creeps me out.
34Whole milk. Think soy and skim milk are gross.
35I wish I could drink skim milk but it tastes too watery. I drink 1%
36My family switched to skim milk when I was a kid. Now everything else feels too thick when I drink it.
37I grew up on 2% so whole milk tastes too thick. I rarely drink it now in any variety.
38i do the soy or rice milk...yummm
39Skim milk...1% is ok, and 2% and Whole are just too thick. I grew up with 2% at home, and whole with the grandparents. Gradually as my mom dieted, the milk % went down.
40I dabbled in soy for awhile too but the only ones that don't make me gag are the chocolate so....skim it is!
Skim milk here is2% fat. I prefer Semi skim (3% fat) but it's expensive.
41If I can't get skim I have soy. Full fat milk makes me feel queazy.
Whole milk here. I think skim is like drinking nasty water. I didn't taste right.
42Hm, I drink the MEJI Low Fat milk. It tastes the same as whole fat milk, to me at least.
43Skim Plus, which is skim w/milk solids added. Great on cereal, in coffee, etc. Who;e milk is too thick, skim too watery!
44I do not like the taste of white milk, but I use it to cook with and I only use skim milk. You would be amazed at how many calories you can cut by using that.
