In a way the Bloody Mary is like a liquid salad - celery, onions, tomatoes - only with alcohol in it. I know that a lot of people dislike the way they taste, however there is something about the savory flavor that keeps me coming back for more. To whip up your own alcoholic salad, read more

Bloody Mary
From Ina Garten
3 large stalks celery from the heart, including leaves, plus extra for serving
36 ounces tomato juice (recommended: Sacramento)
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon grated yellow onion
1 lemon, juiced
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
12 dashes hot sauce (recommended: Tabasco), or to taste
1 1/2 cups vodka
- Cut the celery in large dice, including the leaves, and puree in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade. Process until finely minced.
- In a large pitcher, combine the rest of the ingredients except the vodka.
- With the food processor running, pour 1/4 of the tomato juice mixture into the food processor through the feed tube.
- Then pour the contents of the food processor into the pitcher with the remaining tomato juice mixture.
- Add the vodka and chill.
- Serve in tall glasses over ice with a stick of celery.

i love a bloody mary
1Not a huge fan of the bloody mary. If it has a lot of Tobasco and not alot of tomato juice...lol
2i am such a huge fan of vegetables that i knew a bloody mary would end up being one of my favorite drinks once i hit 21.
i've never heard of anyone referring to it as liquid salad, though. that's a great way to describe it. lol
3lv bloody marys, yum, with lots of worcester sauce
4delicious!
5Bloody Mary's are yucky and definitely not a good as Caesars. Unfortunately, every time I go to the US, I can never get one!
6I love Bloody Marys! But I prefer one of those pickled green beans as a garnish rather than celery. Maybe that's a west coast thing?
7I like all of the ingredients individually so I fgured I's adore them- Can't stand them!!!
8Oh a bloody mary is what I kick off every saturday morning with during football season! In the South we garnish with pickled okrah too. and Lots of Tony Cacherie's!
9d_ford, I hear you. I don't know what it is about Caesars, but they knock the Bloody Mary's socks off!
If you grate fresh horseradish into a Caesar it's even more tasty.
