Fortunately for my love of salt, I'm one of few doctors endorse a high salt diet for. I put salt on everything and LOVE it on watermelon (all melons actually)!
I do so enjoy the salty/sweet combo! I agree with the "don't knock it until you try it" poster!
I've never heard of this! Who would put salt on something so sweet and juicy?? I would think the salt would absorb the juices, but I won't knock it until I try it, like everyone says!
Never. The only fruit that I put salt on are cherries lol. I love my watermelons the way they are, but if salt brings out the flavours and sweetness more then i'll be sure to try it out next
time
I have never tried it on watermelon, but I put salt on my canteloupe, it really brings out the flavor of the juice. I will have to try salt on watermelon though!
I've never heard of this but I definitely want to try it! I remember my grandmother dipping freshly peeled pears and apples into salt water to keep them from yellowing while we ate them ... I
didn't mind the taste at all, but I'm sure it changes your watermelon experience, probably for the better!
Putting sald on a lot of sweet foods really brings out the extra sweetness! Not sure why, but it works far better than suger. But just a pinch! Also putting it on cantaloupe is really good
too!! I think i prefer it to the watermelon:)
When I was in Mexico they had a combo of salt and cayenne pepper (or a similiar HOT ground dried pepper) to put on mango and melon...makes the fruit taste sweeter and adds a heck of a punch!
I've never even heard of this! Crazy. I do put salt on my cherry tomatos though. And I like the thing Maximumblonde said they did in Mexico, i'll have to try that.
I think this is an Asian thing? My parents/grandparents/relatives etc often put salt on not just watermelon, but other fruits too, especially citrus. Try it on a sour orange...just a little
bit. The salt makes it much *sweeter*.
and i have heard of the pepper and salt with mango, my honduran friend has that for lunch all the time.
speaking of odd food combinations, my mom using the phrase "arroz con mango" alot to describe something thats weird or out of place since it means "rice with mango"
Dang, I was starting to think my mom and I were the only people on the planet who do this. I don't usually salt good watermelon, but if it's kind of mediocre, a dash of salt really brings out
the sweetness and juiciness. And I say this as someone who almost always adds less salt than the recipe calls for when I'm cooking, and usually adds none at all.
I hate melons, so I don't eat htem, but it makes sense. Adding salt to things makes them taste sweeter and have more depth. That's why you have to add salt to everything, from cookies to
watermelon.

LOL...SAY NO TO THE SALT!
I don't know how people can put extra salt on any foods, but I certainly can't imagine salting my fruit.

23I rarely use salt, so I couldn't imagine ruining watermelon with it.
24Salt, a squeeze of lime and a few sprinkles of finely ground dried pepper are the perfect complement to watermelon's natural sweetness.
25Just Oh's idea sounds interesting. I've never really understood salt on fruit though.
26never heard of doing this.. i am a salt girl too i said never but i would try it
27I have grown up always sprinkling salt on my watermelon. Its delicious! Everyone in my family eats their watermelon this way.
28Putting sald on a lot of sweet foods really brings out the extra sweetness! Not sure why, but it works far better than suger. But just a pinch! Also putting it on cantaloupe is really good too!! I think i prefer it to the watermelon:)

37when i was little, my grandma would put SUGAR on watermelon, and salt on limes. that's how cubans do it, i guess, lol.
38and i have heard of the pepper and salt with mango, my honduran friend has that for lunch all the time.
