While I might be a late-night baker, I have never trusted the temperature of ovens. Instead I rely on a trusty oven thermometer. My somewhat new oven is about 25 degrees cooler than what the knob says, so with my thermometer, I can adjust the temperature and cook time correctly. With Fall in full swing and baking on the brain, I'm wondering, do you use one?

yes but it's on the fritz so i just purchased a new one. hope it works!
our oven doesn't tell you the temperature so i dont have a choice
1The oven at my parents vacation house is totally out of wack. I've been telling my dad we need to get a thermometer for months. He only realized it recently when we accidentally burnt sweet potato fries.
2Yes I do, and it's my oven despite the fact that the oven is brand new and thus far has been very accurate.
3Yup we use one. Our oven is always about 15 degrees warmer then it says
4I bought one years ago when I was making tater tots in one of my many crappy apartment ovens. Figured that when the smoke detector went off after only a few minutes in the oven that it was just a wee bit hot. It's nice to have, for sure!
5Meh, I'm sure my oven is off at least 25 degrees but I don't think it warrants buying a thermometer. Just keep a close eye on what you are baking like you should be doing, anyhow.
Much more warranted are refrigerator thermometers, in my opinion. I got great satisfaction out of buying mine and being able to turn the thermostat 2 numbers warmer on the 1-10 scale.
6I'm waiting until I get a chance to bake to get a thermometer. I don't have too much cash at hand right now for all my apt improvements.
7I had one at our old house. They temperature dial was upside down for some reason so if i wanted to know the temperature i had to use the thermometer
8Yes, we have one. We don't use it, since we have never had any issues with over-cooking or burning. Maybe we should.
9I've never had one - I'm pretty good at eyeballing when things are ready and don't even use a timer every time I bake.
10Mine isn't just for the oven; I have an IR thermometer that you just aim at anything and it tells you how hot it is (well, up to about 900 degrees). So when I'm baking/cooking, I aim it at the oven and it tells me how hot it is inside.
11I had one that got lost in the move many years ago and now the oven is not cooking properly, time to invest in a new one.
12Oh, yes. My oven is anywhere from 50–75° hotter than the dial says, so it's a necessity.
