As someone who loves the lowbrow as much as the highbrow, I eat processed American cheese more times a week than I care to admit. I'll never turn down a creamy Robiola, but I'll also never stray far from processed cheese, especially if it's on a burger or in cheese dip. I had been embarrassed about it, but recently I discovered I'm not alone in the food world. A Gourmet writer extolled its mild flavors and creamy texture, and Eric Ripert even holds some appreciation for it. Do you love it as much as we do?

I didn't think I loved it that much up until I moved to a country where I can't get it in supermarkets. When I have a craving I just go buy a cheeseburger at BK or McDonald's. I did brought back a few packages home last time I went to Sweden.
I live in Wisconsin. Processed cheese is NOT real cheese. I do NOT eat the stuff; to me, it smells like vomit. If I'm making cheeseburgers or grilled cheese, I'm using some REAL cheese.
I was about to say NO GROSS but then realized...... there is nothing like Velveeta during football season with chips. its disgustingly AMAZING.
Well...I don't eat cheese, I just do not like it. If I do have cheese I eat a slice on a burger. I don't mind the processed kind as long as it's not eaten "straight". Those Kraft Singles have a sheen...they may even bounce, it feels so rubbery to me. Haha.
Love cheese slices! I'm all over white trash foods.
Velveeta is my processed cheese of choice.
Oh I love it, its not real cheese but I know this and still I cannot stay away. darn you kraft singles.
No eww. I never eat processes cheeses.
i usually like real cheese, but sometimes... one likes the processed
though I rarely
order anything with it.
It's not horrible, but it's not cheese. Once people stop thinking of it as a form of cheese, and start thinking of it as a different and completely unrelated foodstuff, the more it'll get some recognition. By analogy, tofu makes a pretty wretched meat substitute, and if you bill it as such, it gets a lousy rap; but it's good in and of itself.
There is brand of soy cheese that comes in slices flavored cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack, etc. that I absolutely ADORE! So good!
I like it on my cheese burger, but I'd rather have the good stuff for anything else.
I LOVE good quality cheese but I have to admit there is a place in my heart for cheese slices. Sigh I am kind embarrassed but its true I say!
I personally think processed cheese is disgusting...I will not eat it..real cheese all the way!
Oh I love it! LOOOOOOOOOOOVE it!!! It is the only cheese I'll put on a burger, it melts beautifully in a grilled cheese sandwich, my 3 year old daughter loves it frozen! Sliced processed cheese is a staple in my house!
While for the most part I like my real cheeses, for some reason in burgers I find it hard to best processed cheese. Can't say I'm a fan of melting it into the patty on the broiler, as it just disappears.
When I grew up my Mom would give us slices of Kraft Singles as a snack. Tasty as heck, and extremely convenient. Sometimes I like letting the foodie prima donna within me take a back seat (spam with tomato and onion being another guilty pleasure).
It scares me a little. I eat it, but I can't think of a dish where real cheese wouldn't be better.
On a nice thick burger a/ potato chips. Ohh me likey!
oh man, a classic grilled cheese sandwich requires a kraft single!
It's not "real" cheese but it is the best for certain foods, like dips and grilled cheese, mmmm.
For topping a burger, I miss having processed cheese slices around, but that's about all. (My husband won't have the stuff in the house.)
