Yum for sangria! And my husband makes pies from scratch every once in awhile - I'll have to get him to do a blueberry one!
1I am a "calculator" too but it is usually only as soon as a group bill comes to figure out my own, throw the cash (my total, tip and usually a couple bucks extra) on the table and let everyone else figure the rest. I don't typically order appetizers or big meals when going out so I don't think I should have to pay for someone I don't really know who had potato skins, 3 glasses of wine and a steak dinner. Typically though, before I even place my order I will ask the waiter/waitress for a separate bill, at that time, usually everyone else will say "oh yeah, me too." I have been shafted too many times by going out with a huge group and it was hard for the waitress to keep up with who had what- AND, on more than one occasion, people from a group I was with would take off wasted and forget to pay their portion of the bill, leaving it to everyone else- no thanks. Another option is, if you are at a bar just ordering drinks, go up to the bar and pay or start a tab and take the drink back to your table. It's quicker usually plus you don't have to divvy up who had what.
2I bounce back and forth between "conscientous objector" and "clean up splitter."
Oh and if you don't have the time for a pie, a blueberry crisp, sometimes called a crumble, is another awesome dish.
