The other day my gal pal DearSugar was talking about sharing food on the first date. The whole conversation got me thinking about what is the perfect date food. What do you guys think? What do you eat on a date?

Italian is usually a safe bet, most people can find something they like on an Italian menu. People tend to have strong opinions about liking things like sushi or seafood (either they love it or hate it) - and Mexican is always a risk on a date because of the "bean" factor
1Anything that's not messy and/or stinky!!
2It depends on the person. Italian food is common, sushi is trendy, things like Thai can be said to be adventurous. What you eat, what your date eats, it says a lot about a person.
3Most things.
4well if its someone new then i am going for something that not to messy or fishy or that can easy get caught in my teeth...
5anything easy, that we both agree on. I love sushi, but sometimes you just want some nice italian!
6Chinese, Thai - something interesting and a little spicy!
7Definitely depends on the person, the situation, and the location. After all, I live in the land of Tex-Mex and barbecue. I've been on many Tex-Mex dates.
8K my plan on first dats is to get something in the middle. I NEVER get salad because guys jsut HATE that and plus big leaves are hard to get into you mouth without making a mess, and i don't want to get the msot expensive steak either...
9So usually I will get pasta of some sort, it's always a safe way to go!
Depends on the situation. I haven't had a first date in a LONG time, but my first date with my husband was to a ballpark! We had hot dogs!
But I'd say that Italian is safe. I'd probably steer clear of Mexican - it can upset my tummy.
10my boyfriend and i are sushi fiends. that's where we end up eating out 90% of the time.
11Sushi is a fun date food. But I would eat any of the above!
12I think tapas are the best option, you can try a little bit of everything and keep going with the conversation cause they are just small portions and it's also fun to share
13I PICKED ITALIAN
14I PICKED ITALIAN
15I'll eat anything, except maybe strong onions. But, I picked TAPAS because I think it's the most fun! Pick a bunch of dishes and share, sometimes eating with fingers - very sexy.
16whatever the heck i'm in the mood for!!!
17Okonomiyaki..sitting across the other person cooking it, ala Tokyo. The best.
18I'd eat everything except for sushi. thai, seafood and italian are my favorites, but I think I'd prefer to stick to thai for date night- no slurping of the italian noodles and no messy fingers breaking crab. I've had enough mexican for a lifetime.
19Sushi-
20A) Shows that you know what you want, and are brave enough to try different things..and NO California rolls don’t count
B) Sushi is interactive, Wasabi, ginger, dipping, chopsticks, Sake, plum wine….its so much fun
C) If he doesn’t know about sushi, its awesome to show him the ropes.
D) If he refuses to eat it…dump him
spicy and sushi.
21My first choice is always sushi. I havent been lucky with guys liking it though... so, thai or italian are usually what we decide on.
22It's not what you eat, it's how you eat it. I'm a bit of a romantic, so on a date, it's important for my lips to look mouth-watering, so whatever I eat is seemingly decadent...just make sure you bring your travel size toothpaste & tooth brush and you'll be fine...he'll be so fixated on your mouth, he won't be too concerned with what you ate. Smile & Enjoy your food~
23I think Sushi is perfect because you don't feel overloaded and full afterwards, there's no extremely offensive smells associated with it and it's fun!
24Ah... my personal rules of food and dating... LOL
Sushi- I love sushi... but if your date isn't used to it, its a hassle... and I've gotten food poisoning from sushi once... so I wouldn't risk it. It would be my luck on a hot date night to get sick.
Italian- If its not your first date then yeah. Otherwise, don't order anything with tomato sauce... no matter how hard I try I always get some on the shirt and stains on the corners of my mouth. Then theres the garlic issue...
Tapas- I think this is great for a blind date or first date. Its light... and faster than a big meal... so if you like the guy, your not over full, and you can suggest going out for dessert or drinks... and if not... the date is over quicker.
Mexican- Not for first dates. If the place is too spicey, or too oniony... you get what I mean.
Seafood- Good for first dates I think. Light, you won't leave the impression that you eat gobs of food, and if things get going the right way... you won't be to full to have fun.
25Italian is my fave!
26i love italian food, but man, if you're wearing something nice, you know the sauce will somehow end up on your clothes!
27sushi
28Seafood: clams, oysters, lobster...the whole deal!
29For a first date? Probably tapas or sushi...NOTHING too odorous.
30Anything that isn't messy or can lead to a disaster (anything with tomato sauce).
31either sushi or italian
sushi can be a bit messy thou.. but i love sushi haha
