Fondant
A typical cake icing made with sugary, syrup and gelatin. It is cooked to a specific temperature (240F), poured over a marble slab, sprinkled with water (to prevent crystallization) and then kneaded to a smooth soft paste. It is often colored and flavored and used for candies and cakes. It can be rolled out and its soft qualities enable it to be draped like fabric.

Although I love the look of fondant - buttercream frosting tastes SO much better.
1Fondant can make a cake so gorgeous!
2I was just watching Ace of Cakes yesterday! Interesting to see how often fondant is used in cake making...
3i agree with pinkesq.....fondant is gorgeous, but when it comes to cake, it's buttercream or bust for me!
4I have never tried fondat before (it doesn't look too tasty) but I would like to try using it one day. I love watching Ace of Cakes! Those people on the Food Network make it look so easy!
5i can't stand how fondant tastes. it's like a weird marzipan.
6Fondant tastes like styrofoam :-\
7A nice homemade marshmallow fondant on top of a vanilla buttercream frosting actually tastes really good, and marshmallow fondant is really easy to make yourself.
