Having spent some serious time in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, I've had my share of love affairs with all kinds of pizza, from the giant, thin pies at Grimaldi's in Brooklyn to the sausage-stuffed deep dish at Giordano's to the organic, local ingredient-laden, egg-topped variety at Alice Waters's Chez Panisse. But if I had to choose, my favorite type of pie would be the one made in the ethereal Neapolitan style. It has a crisp, ever-so-slightly charred exterior and a chewy but light interior. In San Francisco, the best of this kind is found at A16. What's your choice pizza?

I prefer anything that is like real Italian pizza...really thin crust, a light sauce, fresh mozzarella and a basil leaf in the middle. Best pizza on Earth!
1Definitely New York style!
On a side note, I think I have watched the special on New York Pizza vs. Chicago Pizza about a million times.
2i love all, and i have to say, pizza in Italy is to die for, but i still love a thick crust and deep dish greasiness
3lilkimbo, what special? I will have to look out for it!
4Yum, I will have to try to look it up or remember what it's called. It's on either the Travel Channel or the Food Network and they go through a brief history of pizza in each city and show the most noted restaurants from each city. Just to warn you, it will really make you want pizza!
5that one in the pic looks pretty damn good!!!
6Neapolitan! I want my crust thin and crispy like a cracker, slightly singed on the outer crust.
Restaurants that offer Neapolitan style also tend to use higher quality ingredients (like fresh mozzarella and home made sauce) so the pizzas are less greasy. All that grease on the top of the pizza, it's from cheap cheeses that separate and canned sauce.
7AlexisSF: It's from the Ferry Plaza Thursday Street Food Market!
8is there any other type of pizza besides New York pizza? I have not heard of such a blasphemous thing
9I don't really eat pizza, but the only type I like is the Neapolitan kind...very thin crust, not a ton of cheese, lots of tomato sauce, and not a ton of toppings.
10Thin and crispy crust with a "white" sauce of olive oil, fresh garlic and herbs, topped with chicken breast, spinach, Gorgonzola cheese, and...BACON!!!
11i love all pizza spinach alfredo bacon is one of my faves
12what can I say I love thin curst cheese.
13I'm a New Yorker and I love my NY pizza and suffered for 4 years of eating Domino's and Papa John's when I was in college in DC. But, I also studied abroad and went to Italy and I totally loved the pizza that I got there and ate pretty much every day. Yumm...I would love to go back and get me some of that!
14I love Neapolitan-style pizza, but I'm also a fan of the Sicilian-style pizza that's found all around Boston ... delicious!
15Go NYC!
16Because of this post I had NY style pizza for dinner
yum.
I love any kind of pizza basically (don't care for meat toppings) but anything else, thick, thin, crispy, saucy...I'm good.
17NYC pizza all the way. I detest California fu-fu pizza. While I don't really care for Chicago-style either, I'll take it over California any day.
18neopolitan. the simpler the better, that way you can taste the pizza....
19All pizza is delicious ESPECIALLY if it's made in brick or wood burning oven (accept for crap like Dominoes, pizza hut, papa johns, etc).
20i agree with lauren.
the majority of the time i like neopolitan or nyc. but at least once i year, i just have to hit up giordanos in chicago. nothing like eating a days worth of calories in one "slice" yum.
21I guess Neapolitan because I like think crust the best. Isn't NYC style pizza also thin crust? And what exactly is California pizza style? I lived in California for two years and my only conclusion is that CA pizza is gross.
Also, I agree with those who said Italian pizza is the best - I had the most amazing pizza in Rome, exactly the way Anonymous described it. Fresh buffalo mozzarella. Thin crust, light sauce, basil leaf. I think it also had grape tomatoes on it. Oh man, it was phenomenal.
22i've never had better pizza than what i've eaten in naples. leave naples and the pizza changes dramatically. roman style pizza, for example, is much thinner and crisper and the cheese is put on more evenly. i'm actually going to naples this weekend pretty much so that i can eat pizza like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/90465639@N00/4027597856/
23di fara's in brooklyn is the best pizza in the world...but i still love ny style and neapolitan style pizza equally. i hate chicago style pizza and i have no clue what california pizza is & ive lived here all my life.
24I love Neapolitan Pizza, my favorite in San Francisco is at Tony's Pizzeria in North Beach, for sure the best!
25cocoannah Tony's is delicious!!! I just tried it for the first time not too long ago, and I will definitely be going back!
26Also, on my Brooklyn to-try list: Lucali and Di Fara's. I am scared to brave the line at Di Fara's though!
