My boyfriend's Mother made a great spinach soup last year, but usually some sort of pumpkin soup. Never thought of it before, but it is probably better to fill up on soup before to try and
curb the eventual overeating.
yes, soup has been part of my thanksgiving for 31 years! we used to have an amazing mushroom soup that we all looked forward to but my mom recently changed it to chestnut soup, which is
surprisingly equally as delish!
Technically, because the night before every Thanksgiving we make a pot of Potato Soup from an American Girl book I got when I was just a little girl!!! And for the last three years, going on
four, I have slowly started to perfect my butternut squash soup. I am kind of a soup expert now, working in a kitchen at a nice restaurant, so I have high hopes for this year!
I always make mushroom cream soup. It's very good to feed the guests quickly, while the rest of the food finishes, because I never get it all done on time
No, we never have soup. I think if we ever did have it, people would think it was a weird thing to eat at Thanksgiving. I think a pumpkin soup would be really good, though.
My mother-in-law makes the best split pea soup which she serves before Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I thought it was really weird (we never had soup with a fancy meal when I was growing
up)but after tasting it I am already looking forward to it this year! The only bummer is that it is so good you want to eat more but there is a huge feast that also needs to be eaten!
I 've been holding the "Orphan Thanksgiving" for my grad student colleagues who don't/can't travel to family, so they involve lots of people juggling lots of food. While soup would be lovely,
it would just be asking for a big stain on the carpet at this point. Balancing wine is pushing it by the end of the evening!
We've done soup a couple of times, but it won't stick. It's not tradition! My aunt made an interesting cherry soup once, and my husband has tried to serve my family his awesome potato leek
soup. The fam thinks it's good soup, but not for Thanksgiving.
I come from an italian family and every year for every holiday meal, we always have homemade wedding soup, painstakingly made by my grandmother. Everything's fresh, perfect and delicious. I
don't care if I eat anything else - this is the best part of the meal.

1My dad sometimes makes pumpkin soup as an appetizer.
2It hasn't been in years past, but it'd be great for this year as a make-ahead element to the meal.

6Sometimes. My Mom usually makes it. She's really good with soups.
Pumpkin soup. That's a good idea.

9I wish it were, but it's just not a family tradition. Maybe when I strike out on my own...
10In a sense. The night before Thanksgiving (and Christmas) my family can often be found enjoying mugs of oyster stew with a salad and crusty bread.
11No soup for me on Thanksgiving.

13Does left over turkey soup count?
14Only if it has...BACON!
