We got into the weirdest conversation here at the Sugar HQ; it was all about the word "moist." Turns out that a lot of people either hate it, or know someone who hates it. I don't have a problem with it, especially because I can't figure how else to describe a perfectly moist cake. How about you guys, what do you think of the word?

Polo Ralph Lauren
Manoush
Faith
Definatly! Cake is moist...well good cake is at least
All fluffy and moist and oh
so yum!
1I think to some this word sounds pejorative and perhaps just vulgar, but those people have dirty minds.
2Of course good cake is moist. Mmm...moist cake...
Definitely. A moist, delicious cake is perfection to me.
3haha yes, i use it quite often! i didnt realize people were bothered by that adjective for cake, LOL
4Sure do, who likes dry cake??!!
5i'd always heard of people hating this word . . . but it was HILARIOUS on an episode of 'how i met your mother,' when barney tormented lily with that word-- over and over and over.
6If you are eating cake hopefully it is moist. Who'd want to eat a cake that wasn't? Seriously who hates the word moist?
7I use it but it does sound kind of gross!
8Haha.. Moist is one of those words that really should be used sparingly. I think as a description of cake, its passable.
In other instances, I try to use "damp" instead of moist. I don't ask for someone to Moisten a rag, I'll ask them to dampen a rag.. stuff like that.
But you can't exactly call a cake "damp" unless it got rained on. hehe..
9what's wrong with moist? some people are dumb.
10No, I describe it as dry. Cake is ALWAYS dry.
11Hells yes I use the word moist!
If someone can't use the word moist to describe cake then there's a major lack of maturity there.
12The word moist is perfect of your describing a tastey cake. People just need to get thier minds out of the gutter.
13I've had the conversation about a million times... and it makes me love the word moist even more...
14No, I HATE the way the word "moist" sounds. Not because my mind is in the gutter...but it just sounds disgusting to me for some reason!
15ew ew ew ew ew ew ewwwwwww! The word "moist" is the most disgusting word in the english language. I never ever ever use it.
16ewww, just looking at this post makes me shudder.
Wow! Who knew that a little 5 letter word could provoke such a strong
reaction. I've never heard anyone object to the term 'moist' before and I definitely use it when describing a good cake. But if someone can offer up a better alternative, I'm willing to give
it a try and lower the offensive factor.
17I don't use the word often for cakes. I usually use words like "tasty" or "yummy." However, if I am getting more in-depth about a cake I will say "moist."
I worked with a gal who hated the word, just like Lily in HIMYM. Most of the guys would torment her with it. She also hated the word "panties," so you can imagine the sentences they used to drive her up the wall!
18fly1133- why did you have to bring up "panties?" ewww again!
19haha!! "panties" is almost as gross of a word as "moist."
At least I know I'm not alone in hating those words.
I love the word Moist. But I only love it because I hate it. Is that crazy?!?
20I can't think of a better word to use. Though, besides baking, there aren't a lot of opportunities to use the word.
21Sorry Mary! But you're right...at least you know you aren't alone.
I will use
"underwear" just for you from now.
22Oops! From now on. hehehe
23I do.. but that word really is a horrible word LOL
24haha yeah panties is another one!!!
25It never occurred to me that when talking about CAKE someone would get her PANTIES in a twist over the word MOIST.
Sorry, just had to say it! I think I made my point though. When talking about cake, who would think of that as dirty? Now if we were talking about anatomy or something, moist has QUITE a different tone. That I can understand. Cake is delicious, and when prepared properly is moist and scrumptious.
26If your cake is not moist, YOU COOKED IT WRONG! If you have a problem with the word moist~ Well sounds like a personal problem... moist moist moist moist moist no problems here!
27If your cake is not moist, well maybe YOU COOKED IT WRONG! If you have a problem with the word moist~ Well sounds like a personal problem... moist moist moist moist moist no problems here!
28What's wrong with the word 'moist'? And without it, how would those of you who don't like that use of the word describe the difference between a dry cake and a moist one?
Moist, moist, moist, moist...
29^I agree...what's wrong with it?
30bleh.. i hate saying the word 'moist'... i'm not sure why, exactly.
maybe it's because i associate moist with crotch - i know how ridiculous that must seem though!
I never said that my reasoning makes sense!
31yeah i never associated this with being dirty -- unfortunately now i will ;p
32SORRY! I forgot this was YUM sugar... that was not appropriate dinner talk on my part!
33What other word would you use?
34using moist is weird?? what is wrong with some people
35I love moist cake. It's either moist or dry. Dry and flaky cake is the worst.
36my aunt actually has a recipe that she calls "Moist Chocolate Cake" and it's the best cake ever but she won't give up the recipe...much like Katherine on Desperate Housewives...
37I've never heard that before! How strange.
38weeeeeird. I had no idea this was such a controversy!
And for those who think all cakes are dry . . . ever had 3 leches? Depending on which country you eat it in it goes from undeniably moist to positively drenched.
39Moist is a good descriptoe.
What about dry? Can we call it sandpaper?
40yes
41there are 3 words that i hate most in the world and find them disgusting and sort of offensive, but i think its a personal experience thing.
421. moist
2. crusty
3. nugget
This cake is so perfectly hydrated and delicious.....yeah I think I'll stick with moist.
43I use "sexy." Seriously-I don't think to use the word moist when a good cake is involved; for me, when the texture is right it's silky and plays across my tongue like jello or custard and it always comes out as "AH MAH GAH this cake is SO SEXY!!!"
44i hate this word to describe food...maybe it's just the way it comes out of peoples mouths and right after they enjoy the first bite it comes out so slowly..yuck
45Hahahaha! Moist! Who else watched Dead Like Me?
46Whoops, I answered too quick. Yes, I do use the word, but I hate that word so much!!
47I WATCH DEAD LIKE ME! Right after I read the title, it made me think of Joy and how she thinks "moist" is a dirty word
Amazing show, too bad it was cancelled!
48Dead Like Me fan here too!! God I loved that show... and moist is fine by me.
