I recently attended the Food & Wine 2007 American Wine Awards. While there I tasted some great wine, and feasted on some tasty eats. The folks from Delfina were serving up tasty pork sandwiches, and as I waited for mine, I snapped this photo. I think it's delicious, but understand that others might not agree. So tell me, how does this photo make you feel?

Disgusted. My second thought is "I wanna touch it."
1This is SO gross and the EXACT reason why I'm a vegetarian! Its just to disgusting to fill yourself with burned flesh instead of fresh veggies or grains!
2That is really unappealing. It looks like he was burnt alive and was in pain. (I know they don't do that, but it looks like it!!) I don't eat pork, but if I did, I still would have shied away from that table.
3It makes me feel sick, that grease all over him. Ugh
4it makes me sad...but i still eat it. i guess im a hypocrite.
5It's gross! But I would still eat it!
6Haha, this isn't very rare for me to see, since at a lot of big Filipino gatherings we have something called "lechon" which is basically slices of pork with the skin on it fried to a crisp. Lots of time the head is still on display like this, but with an apple in its mouth. It sort of makes me nostalgic, actually, since we usually don't get lechon anymore, but I never really liked eating it. I'm just more of a potato girl anyway
7I just threw up in my mouth a little.
8Sorry. It made me hungry.
9it does make me hungry.. but WHY does there have to be a head! lol
10disgusted. I have been asked to many pig roasts and I refuse. Yes, I eat pork but that is just wrong on so many levels.
11It intrigued me, but also made me want pork... However, I've also got 'Lord of the Flies' visions right now.
12Disgusted. BUT that wouldn't stop me from ordering the sandwich. I just hate to see heads! I'm only just getting used to seeing fish heads on the plate, as is the style now!
13Sad. But I still eat pork. Something about seeing it burnt like that...
14Ugh.... I think it's pretty disgusting. I am a meat eater, but I guess - for me, anyway - there's no reason to put the pig's head as decor with the shaved pork to eat. It's gross. It's like when people mount deer heads on their walls.
Sorry - not a fan!
15I by no means a vegetarian, and being asian, I'm pretty desensitized to these sorta things. I could see how some would be totally grossed out, but if you eat meat, this just puts into perspective what you consume.
16I eat chciken and basically that's about it. I don't eat pork because it's one of the worst meats you can eat, and I rarely eat beef.
I am so against this, it makes me sick. Thing like this, shrimp. lobster-animals devoured in their natural state is disgusting and vile. Somewhere along the lines some sicko thought it was amusing and on some human vs animal power trip and thought this was just his/her way of proving animals are that much more inferior.
I wish I could giveup chicken and not eat meat at all, but alas it's hard. But even still I would rather starve than eat something like in this picture.
17Makes a little sick. I can eat some meat, but please take off the face and hooves. Reminds me Lord of the Flies... blech
18Disgusted. I don't like pork.
19Disgusting.
20It gave me a feeling of sadness and hurt. But I am curious and want to touch it like DesignRchic. Simply why I try not to eat much meat, if possible.
21I'm thinking about Lord of the Flies now. Not a fan of pork either.
22First thing that comes to mind... NIN 'Closer' video...
No thoughts of putting that anywhere near my mouth.
23I bet those were some super tasty sandwiches!
24poor little piggy
25Roast port is delicious, I love the tasty, crispy skin.
26I love pork, but to see a close up of the head like that is just gross....I don't want to think about the face of what I'm eating.
27i don't like it when my food looks back at me. i couldn't eat lobster b/c of it. well, that and the people i was with kept pointing out the brains and the nerves, etc. i was like "i'm done. where's the salad bar?" same with fish heads. cut it off, first. then i'm like "Yum!"
28i eat meat and some may say it's hypocritical, but i don't want to see the face of the animal i'm snacking on.
doesn't he look like he has a smile on his face?
29This is the EXACT reason i love MEAT, oh i just want those tender juicy cheeks, the crispy little ears, that awesome part right behind the eyes! and he looks just so happy to be there. I know where meat comes from, and am not squeemish to the reality of it.
Now i am starving.
30Aimeeb-Thats not true Pork is not "one of the worst meats you can eat" its considered a "white" meat, high in Thiamin (vitamin B) and its healthier than red meat
I have seen starving people, and this wouldnt be turned down, believe me.
31I didn't pick "disgusted", as that's not quite accurate and more extreme than my reaction. I simply find it unappetizing. I'm what I've heard referred to as something along the lines of "semi-vegetarian" (nutritionally speaking), which means that I eat a little meat (mostly chicken) and eggs on occasion, but go days eating vegetarian fare (not vegan, as I'd go nuts without my milk and honey). It's not because I find it disgusting, or that it makes me angry or sad or whatever. It's partially a nutritional thing, and largely a taste preference.
32I have trouble with this, and I'm carnivorous! If I make an association between what I'm eating and its original state of being, then I'll never eat it again. And I have a million food allergies and can't afford to lose much more from my diet!
33Yummy
34Reminiscent of "lechon" (roasted pork on a spit)...and as someone else pointed out, it's usually the highlight in Filipino gatherings. Yum, yum....I haven't had it since I last went back to the Philippines.
35Traumatic memories of pig headed people cause it to creep me out a bit and my sick sense of reality makes me want to touch it.
36If it bothers people who eat meat, then they should be a vegetarian due to moral objections. I can understand the dilema of liking meat, but not liking where it comes from though. It's a tricky grey area,
I haven't eaten pork in 14 years and after seeing this, I don't plan to!
37I'm a total meat lover, but knowing the process of how that meat gets to the table makes me queasy. I remember my grandmother telling me when she was a new bride in rural Arizona the first time she was expected to kill, skin and cook a pig for her husband and his family. I could never imagine doing that, EVER!
38I have quit eating meat because I know that if I had to kill and prepare the animal myself I would never be able to do it. This picture really grosses me out.
39Ha. I had to look at it for a while before I could tell what it was. It's a little too much for me, but it won't make me become a vegetarian.
40disgusted. i hate pork meat
41I actually went to a pork roast about a month ago at local restaurant. It was great! they roasted the whole pig and it was delicious! I have no problem with this...
YUM, YUM, AND MORE YUM!
42It's more scary than anything...reminds me of the mask the kidnappers wear in the SAW movies...I bet those were yummy!!
43Lord of the Flies is exactly what this makes me think of! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I do eat meat, but I would not have been able to get the sandwich after seeing this. It's the same with fish. I don't want to see the head & eyes!
I'll have this image in my head all day now...
44yuck
45Lord of the Flies!!
I'm a vegetarian - not because of this, necessarily, but it does sort of reinforce my decision.
46I actually have killed more than one animal and prepared it and eaten it. Its the circle of life people. I also have learned alot about survival techniques (farming, raising animals, plant identification) because I want to be as prepared as possible if our "lifestyle" as we know it is gone one day due to natural or man made disasters.
Its not like you invite the pig over for tea and slit its throat while its stirring the sugar into its cup. Its very humane, and necessary.
47Totally gross! I'm such a hypocrite though, because I would totally eat it. I wouldn't look it in the eyes though...
48While it wouldn't make me lose my appetite, it's kinda gross.
49I'm a vegetarian. This picture is effin' horrible. Pork that's sold in mainstream supermarkets comes from animals that are cruelly abused from birth to slaughter. I have heard that standards are different on small farms -- and differ from farm to farm -- but the fact remains that pigs are approximately as intelligent as three-year-old human children. They deserve better than to wind up as someone's dinner. I wish people would think long and hard about the origins of their dinner, and consider whether it's truly worth it. None of us would abuse an animal the way that factory farms do, so why would we literally PAY someone to do it for us -- just for the sake of meat's taste?
