Last Thursday night, I had some friends over for a quick dinner. I forgot to purchase wine and asked Katie, one of my guests, if she could bring a bottle. Always one to oblige her hostess, she showed up with a magnum of Estancia Cabernet Sauvignon. She purchased the super-sized bottle for only $8 at a nearby liquor store, so we were a little worried it was going to be horrible.
Surprisingly, it was a wonderful, light, moderately priced wine excellent for a work night. A food friendly red with soft plum flavors and a smooth, rich finish, this wine paired perfectly with the cheesy butternut squash lasagna I served. The bottle was the ideal amount for five people to have a few glasses each. If you are looking for a budget red to serve at an upcoming party, I highly recommend this bottle.

ooo i think i have seen this at ralphs...good to know
1Eight dollars? Wow!
2Good to know cheap wine can be good
3I'd like to say their Pinot Noir is even better!
4Mmm, I've had this before. Only a sip but it was pretty good.
5I actually had this wine last weekend, and I loved it! My husband and I were looking for a cheap/good wine and this is what they recommended.
6ugh, its generic and no offense, FAKE... many vineyards make wine that is tasty but the grapes are conventionally grown, altered, and not at all real... Wine is supposed to be alive... this is sucky that you recommend this crap.
7can i recommend another wine? i recently went to the san diego zoo's annual charity taste, and there was a sparkling wine there called jfj almond sparkling wine. in san diego, i managed to get a bottle for THREE DOLLARS. i was able to find it online for about 8 not including shipping/handling, but everyone i know that has tried the wine including people that detest wine are in love with it now. it would be great if you could go out and get a bottle and promote it, because it needs the recognition to be sold nation wide!!!
8It's funny because here in Louisiana a regular sized bottle of Estancia will set you back about $15. Maybe it's because you are in California? My husband and I enjoy this wine from time to time - it is a great work week wine.
LaurenG22 what do you know about Estancia, you weren't too clear - or are you just talking about inexpensive wine in general?
9Syako-- its a little long to get into all of it... certain wineries/wines just are mass-produced and combined with other things BESIDES grapes... inexpensive wine is not the enemy. Its all about knowing the wineries and people who make the wine to know if it is real or not and worth buying. One of my favorite wines is 8 bucks!
10Interesting. Could you maybe send me a link of an article about this? My husband and I love good wine (mainly oregon pinot!) but we also like to save money on the weeknight wines - I'd love to know which wines are mass produced with things other than grapes (gross!)
11I see this wine all the time in the grocery store. I've always wondered if it was any good.
12i just went to the wine store to pick up this great buy. I live in Pennsylvania and a regular size bottle is $17.99! Unbelievable, I'd love to try it but for that price I'll stick to something I know I'll like. Keep sending recommendations...
