I never actually eat anything with sugar in it, not even processed stuff or fruit juices, juts because I don't like how it affects my bloodsugar - I therefore NEVER eat macaroons!
French macaroons are so delish but I'm also swept up by their aesthetic sensibilities.
If you think that sounds pretentious just go look at laduree.com, a pastel rainbow of colours, all housed in the most exquisite packaging! Their stores are divine.
We got a free box full of French Macaroons when I was in Paris. (From Laduree!) They come in all sorts of flavors. I was with my fiance, and we went out on our final day there and bought a
bunch for our families. They are very good -- almost pure sugar.
I like both kinds though!
I've had a coconut flavoured french macaroons before. They sell them in Laduree in Harrods and Paris. I'm not sure if you get Laduree in America at all.
If you need a french macaron primer and recipe, there's a really good series on Serious Eats (www.seriouseats.com) this
week. They're not that hard to make, and they are very delicious!
Coconut... because the first time/only time I tried French macaroons I got extreeeeemely sick. It was from smoked salmon I think, but still, I associate the two ya know?
Oh my god - My first ever true french macaron (only one "o" for the french cookies) was a couple weeks ago when I was at a play opening in Santa Monica, the caterer put out chocolate macarons
from Boule (420 La Cienega, in L.A.) and I, I am not even a big sweeet-toothy type, but this was like - just - unbelieveable. They are amazing. Amazing. I want to find the French patisseries
around here in Bev Hills/West Hollywood etc. and try all the different flavours they come in, but oh my god those chocolate macarons were unreal...
I love french macaroons, especially those that are flavored chocolate and pistachio. I like regular coconut macaroons too, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the French ones.
I recently had French macaroons in Montreal. They come in lots of different flavors. I had one that was caramel apple flavor, and my other favorite was passionfruit flavored. The colors were
outrageous as well. Love them!

This soup ends up being a good source of three blood pressure-lowering minerals since the milk adds calcium and the potatoes deliver a dose of potassium, as well as magnesium.
I don't think I've ever encountered a French macaroon. Even if I had, I'd probably still pick coconut. Love that stuff!
