I hate to admit it, but although homemade is always better...When I slice my cranberry sauce in the shape of a tin can, I get some strange "joy" out of it. Takes me back to being a kid. lol
grandma makes a cranberry-strawberry jello that is amazing. I actually never had cranberry jelly until I went to my boyfriend's house for thanksgiving...obviously I have to side with grandma!
Thinking that homemade whole cranberry suace *must* be superior to canned stuff, I've been making it for the last few years. Turns out one small batch is enough for my huge family and my
in-law's family. I guess the canned stuff is just more raditional Americana.
This year, my last year of trying something different, I'm making one sister do a cranberry cream pie. If that fails, it's back to the can.
The can is the only way to go. I don't care what anyone says... I love the sound it makes coming out, the shape it's in with the little can ridge marks, and everything. It's just like being a
kid again!
I'm doing my first big thanksgiving this year (10 people) and I'm continuing my family's tradition - both the canned, tin shaped cranberry jelly, and a delicious, and extremely easy brandied
cranberry sauce of my aunt's. Because everyone loves leftovers!
my aunt makes THE BEST cranberry salad ever. it has oranges, apples, walnuts, jello, and of course, cranberries! i really can't have cranberries any other way.
Yes, canned all the way. And white meat sandwiches with dressing and gravy and a slim layer of canned cranberry sauce.
Nothing says Thanksgiving so much as that oddly satisfying plop when the cranberry jelly slides out of the can...

2Same here Dominique. That sucking sound the jelly makes when it comes out of the can really takes me back too.
3Me, too. I like the "tin" shape and get very disappointed if it doesn't come out whole.

5My dad uses cinnamon and sugar in his cranberry sauce recipe, so it's sweet and brings out the amazing flavor of the cranberries. yum yum!
6i love any kind of cranberry sauce!
7well made cranberry sauce-nothing too gelatinous
8I've actually never had homemade.I like the cranberry sauce in the can.
9yeah ive never had the real stuff
10i dig the can shape.

11I am the only one that likes it right out of the can in my family, but my mother never fails to have a can ready for me.
12i love both! i make my own delicious orange flavored kind but it won't make you forget the weird cyclinder slices of that delicious canned good.
god i love cranberry sauce
13I like both, but homemade has a better flavor.
14The can is the only way to go. I don't care what anyone says... I love the sound it makes coming out, the shape it's in with the little can ridge marks, and everything. It's just like being a kid again!
15I never liked cranberry sauce until I moved to a cranberry-producing state. Now it's an integral part of the meal!
16I've never had the fake stuff. So homemade definitely wins!
17Homemade w/Grand Marnier!!!! So good!!!!
18even tho homemade is good its the tradition of seeing a can shaped ribbed cranberry jellied mold on the table that really matters
19I prefer homemade, but my family likes the canned as well. That is one less thing that i have to prepare.

21I don't like cranberry sauce and can't even stand the sight of it when it jiggles. ewwwwwwwwww!
22My mom always makes this cranberry jello thing with apples in it- it's not Thankgiving without it so I never eat the other stuff.
23I prefer homemade.
24we MUST have the full can shape on the dish im ny family. we will have it no other way
25cranberries with habeneros!
26Definitely homemade if I had to pick. Either way, though, I'm not a huge fan.
27either... I ♥ cranberries...
28my aunt makes THE BEST cranberry salad ever. it has oranges, apples, walnuts, jello, and of course, cranberries!
i really can't have cranberries any other way.
29I lurve "canberry" sauce, as we call it in my family.
30I've never had it any way other than canned. Nothing beats after Turkey Day sandwiches...with a little slice of canned cranberry sauce!
31Oh you need a little bit of tartness to go with all the yummie Turkey and anything else you serve..
I'll eat anything but homemade has that extra bit of "love" so it's always good
32Yes, canned all the way. And white meat sandwiches with dressing and gravy and a slim layer of canned cranberry sauce.

Fresh with some leftover turkey on some crusty bread.... Pure Happiness!
34There's something about that canned jelly that I like.
35I started making my own a couple of years ago and will not go back to canned. I use orange juice and dark honey.
36Wow!
37I thought I would be the only one who didn't like cranberry sauce but 51 people said they didn't like it!!!
i'm a die hard fan of canned cranberry sauce - but not the kind w/ the cranberries - the jelly kind...
38LOVED the canned stuff....ridges and all =)
39If I had to choose, homemad-that's always the way to go!
40Homemade w/Grand Marnier!!!! That's a good one!
41Both, but I have canned kind more.
42My sister is making her own this year
43Trader Joe's has the most delicious cranberry sauce in the world - it's not too thick, and it has a tangy, orange kick to it!
I buy it year-round
44Homemade! Here is a recipe I came up with for spiced wine cranberry sauce:
- 1 package cranberries
- 2 cups 100% cranberry/apple/peach juice
- honey
- zest of 1 orange
- juice of 1 orange
- nutmeg
- cinnamon
- allspice
- cloves
- red wine
- sugar to taste
Combine everything (except the sugar) in a pot and boil down. Add the sugar to taste at the end.
45juliet thats great
46I love the can, but my fingers are crossed they'll come out with a sugar-free version. Then I can eat away guilt-free!
