When I found out that today is National French Toast Day, I immediately wondered what the most popular topping was. Are you folks maple purists, or do you go wild?

11I'm not a fan of syrup unless it's flavored, like raspberry. When I was little, I used to think that ordering french toast meant you HAD to get the syrup on top and so I never liked french toast. But then I later discovered that if made at home, you can put whatever you want on the toast. I go for butter. Powdered sugar is always yummy.

23Most of the time unsweetened apple sauce with a sprinkle of cinnamon or if were out strawberries and maybe a little whipping cream.
One of my favorites though was when I'd stay at my sisters when I was younger we used to make french toast with slightly caramelized apples on top and a sprinkle of blue cheese I know it sounds strange, but the flavors compliment one another quite well. Caramelized apples are also yummy on top of out meal minus the cheese of course.
