A while back, I found out that some of my Irish relatives were early cultivators of the California wine industry. They founded Concannon Vineyard in the Livermore valley in 1883. Knowing that I wouldn't get out to Livermore to sample the wine, I totally forgot about my heritage as a vitner.
Last Thursday, while at a wine tasting, I took a sip of a smooth, earthy Cab-Sav blend and had to do a double take. The wine was from my family winery, Concannon! The wine has a dark, ruby color, rich finish, and dark fruit flavors. It would be lovely paired with a holiday roast beef or pork with an herb crust.

That's so cool!!!
1Livermore is like a mini Napa Valley with lot's of great wineries-well worth a visit if you are in the Bay Area. I'll have to try this Cab!
2I didn't insert any of those smileys-weird!
3Agh! Make them stop!
4You just have wine in your blood.
5Yum, I really enjoy learning what wine to pair with what food. Do you think that you could do a post every so often giving a food and maybe an expensive, moderate, cheap wine to pair it with? That would be great for the party season.
6Aembry396-great idea! I would enjoy that too! I love discovering new wines.
7time to hit a wine bar
8that's awesome!
9i've been wanting to research my family ancestry as well, i don't really know where to begin though...
Wine-o!!
10The Livermore area was the first place in California that vineyards were grown for the purpose of making wine. Though it's got some catching up to do with its younger neighbors, it's a great place to go for a day of wine tasting. Unlike Napa and Sonoma, the rooms don't usually charge a tasting fee, the wines can be pretty good, and you'll be hard pressed to find a snob from Marin in the bunch.
11That'd be an awesome coincidence! I, for some reason, hate wine. Got a bottle of Cristal for my birthday, and could only drink half a glass before giving the rest away. I have tasted one wine that I enjoyed, but it was a wedding toast, and they never told us what it was called!
12@brandynicole730: Cristal is a champagne, there are a lot of people that don't like champagne.
There are tons of wines out there that you can absolutely love. The trick is to keep trying.
