The most important part to a cocktail party is the cocktails. If you want to offer guests a full open bar, then hire a bartender for the night. What I prefer to do is make a few large batches of one cocktail and set up a mini bar. When guests ask what to bring tell them to bring one of the ingredients to the punch. Set out vodka, gin, tonic, cranberry juice, lime wedges, ice, and glasses. Guests can make themselves a vodka cran or gin and tonic. Don't forget sparkling and still water and sparkling apple cider.
I also like to serve egg nog along side a festive punch. This year I am eager to try a punch that was recently featured in Bon Appetit. It's a gorgeous pomegranate champagne punch. For the recipe to that and the egg nog I make every year, read more

I'm not having another party until New Year's, probably, but I think I found my punch recipe. This looks DELICIOUS.
1ahhh...too many cocktail choices!
2I tried a lime sherbet punch before that was delicious. To keep it chilled we froze an ice ring in a bundt pan with lime slices, kiwis, etc. frozen in. Yummmmmmm.
3Yum and Double-yum! Especially the eggnog.
I'd have to be careful with those champagne punches, I tend to overdo with champagne and get QUITE tipsy. Haha.
4ooh that punch sounds delish!
5yummmmy yummmy for my tummy!
6Love the look of this punch!
7this stuff looks GREAT! Wish I was having party!
8im with you nancita, new years eve punch! might have to try a batch beforehand to give it a "test run" tho yknow
9No on the eggnog and yes on the punch!
10I thinking making homemande eggnog is an awesome idea. Something I've never done...
11Made the pomegranate punch for my xmas party and it was a huge success! Didn't need the sugar water, the punch was sweet enough on its own - in fact we added a bottle of seltzer to tone it down a bit more. Also made an ice ring with mint, lemon slices and pomegranate seeds that made it all the more festive.
12This one's a keeper!
