I love White!!! It's the classic for me.
Also, when I was little I thought it was chicken. I know, it's CLAM chowder, but my family has never let me live that down. Whenever we eat chowder, they ask how the chicken is. COME ON I was
like 7!!
I agree with all the foodies - both are good depending on where you are and what you're in the mood for. Also love any seafood chowder, heck I'd eat ground beef chowder. Love the cioppino,
roberto and Spengers in Berkeley.
Nothin' like a hahty, homemade bowl of Nah England Clahm Chowdah! No "cahned clahms" please! (Had to "wuhk" the accent....sorry about that! I'm wikked retahded!)
Come to think of it, the best chowder I ever ate was from a small Mom and Pop seafood shack south of Boston. It was cream based, with shrimp, lobster and scallops. No clams. And the slightest
bit of tomato gave it a nice rosey glow. A mixture of the best of both worlds. Perfection!
The best clam chowder I've ever had was in a restuarant (I can't remember the name) a few years ago on Pier 39 in San Francisco, but it was White and they served it to you in a bread
bowl...it was so good!
I'm with Roberto on this one - if you're going to eat a red seafood stew, just go whole hog and get some nice, garlicky cioppino. When I'm in the mood for chowder, it's gotta be New England
style - with lots of hot, crusty bread!
Oooh, I haven't had lobster bisque in a while. That sounds gooood, too!

This soup ends up being a good source of three blood pressure-lowering minerals since the milk adds calcium and the potatoes deliver a dose of potassium, as well as magnesium.
really depends on my mood and location! Also really love "rhode island" mix of both together!
1I'd rather eat lobster bisque!
2No clams for me thanks - I'm a vegetarian and have never really been a fan of seafood.

White clam chowder is the only way to go in New England!
5I'm a fan of the red chowder. I like white, but it's my second choice.
6I've only ever had white.
7Hands down White.
8I love seafood, but i could never do the raw oyster or tuna thing
9Red or "Manhattan" tastes so much better to me! I've never liked White.. can't stand the smell.
10Once you study biology and dissect clams, you don't eat them
11Neither!!! I like most seafood, but NOT clams.
I'd rather have lobster bisque
12I don't think I've ever heard it called "white" and "red" clam chowder.
13I love them both!! I probably prefer red, actually, but I've only ever had the pleasure of eating it once.
14Neither, but I love scallop chowder.
15white clam chowder with lots of mushrooms is soooo good.
16I was raised on white being a New Englander, but I had red when I lived in NYC and I liked it. They're both different, but delicious!
17I've rarely seen red clam chowder. I've only ever had it at Spengers in Berkeley, and when I did have – it there it was DELICIOUS!
18If you are going to have red clam chowder, you might as well just have cioppino.
19I agree with all the foodies - both are good depending on where you are and what you're in the mood for. Also love any seafood chowder, heck I'd eat ground beef chowder. Love the cioppino, roberto and Spengers in Berkeley.
20Yum I love them both but agree it depend where you are having it.
21I like Manhattan.
22i have never had red before or even heard of it for that matter so i kinda had to go with white since that is the only one i have ever had
23White clam chowder all the way. It's both mine and my hubbies fav's.
24uhm I actually never had neither white nor red! I live in Scandinavia though so its not a common dish here
25never had the "red" but that picture makes me want to try it!
26I'll starve, thanks!

28Love white, but what about you Party?
29Come to think of it, the best chowder I ever ate was from a small Mom and Pop seafood shack south of Boston. It was cream based, with shrimp, lobster and scallops. No clams. And the slightest bit of tomato gave it a nice rosey glow. A mixture of the best of both worlds. Perfection!
30The best clam chowder I've ever had was in a restuarant (I can't remember the name) a few years ago on Pier 39 in San Francisco, but it was White and they served it to you in a bread bowl...it was so good!
31Red is great and has far less calories and fat than the white version.
32White - it's more classic.
33I didn't even know there was a red clam chowder. I've only ever had white. I like that it looks thick and tastes delicious!
34Seafood is digusting
35In Texas, there's not a lot of opportunities to eat clam chowder, white or red.
36Def White! New England Clam Choweder in a toasted bread bowl is the best! I had some last week
37I'm with Roberto on this one - if you're going to eat a red seafood stew, just go whole hog and get some nice, garlicky cioppino. When I'm in the mood for chowder, it's gotta be New England style - with lots of hot, crusty bread!
Oooh, I haven't had lobster bisque in a while. That sounds gooood, too!
38I was going to say white, but then I realized I don't think I've ever had red!
39The white kind is so thick and hearty!
40White!
41I love going to San Francisco and getting clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl!
Oh and I have a degree in Biology. Still eat clams
Oysters too!
42I like good old Manhattan clam chowder.
I am a carnivore and love meat....

43i'd rather eat clam SAUCE or cippinno the way my dad makes it!!!
