If hosting a holiday cocktail party is too formal for your entertaining style, host an ugly sweater themed bash instead! Invite all of your friends over and tell them to wear their most obnoxious Christmas sweater. This type of party is fun, informal, and hysterical. To get guests in the mood send a fabulous invitation. You can download, print, and fill out our ugly sweater party invite or make a more personalized invitation like the one seen here. To see how I made it, read more
To make an invite similar to the one seen here you will need the following supplies:
- 2 sheets of cardstock
- a funny picture of you and the other hosts/hostesses dressed in your ugly sweaters
- scissors
- glue
- computer and printer
To assemble the invite:
- Start by taking a fun picture of you around your Christmas tree in an ugly sweater.
- Make a color photo copy of the picture and cut down to size. Set aside.
- Create a new Word document on your computer. Write out the details of the party. I used the font Bradley Hand ITC TT-Bold in size 14 to write the following message:
You’re invited to rock around the Christmas tree
In your ugliest holiday sweater! This Saturday night, December 15
8 o’clock pm
PartySugar’s house, San FranciscoOnly those wearing a fabulously ugly
sweater will be admitted to the party!Rsvp. 415.555.5555
Print out and check the text for grammar or spelling mistakes. Once satisfied with the info, print out on the cardstock.
- Cut down to size.
- Using fun scissors, cut another piece of cardstock down to size. This will act as the frame to the picture.
- With a round shaped object, trace a circle on the picture. Place the picture on top of the frame cardstock and the circular object on top of this. Carefully slide the picture out while holding the circle in place.
- Trace the circle on to the cardstock and cut the middle out. Turn over.
- Glue the picture, face down to the back of the frame.
- Glue the text face up to the back of the picture.
- Add any special touches. I glued a gold bow to the front of mine.
- Slide into an envelope and send.

This is hilarious!
1If you like sweaters like that (I kid I kid) you should go to You Tube and look up Leslie and the Lys: "Gem Sweater"
You will love it.
2This is hilarious, I love it! I have some awful puff paint/glitter/iron-on sweatshirts that Mom made as a kid - I can't fit into them anymore though. Dangit.
3Too funny! I don't have any ugly holiday sweaters, but I'm sure I could find one! I'll have to remember this idea for next year.
4I know of at least five Tacky Sweater parties that my friends are throwing; I'll have to pass this along!
5absolutely totally brilliant!
6My ugly sweater party is on Saturday!
7I wouldn't be allowed into that party b/c I don't have any ugly sweaters.
8While it's a fun idea, it wouldn't work in my circle since no one owns any ugly sweaters.
9You found the perfect geeks to pose for that picture. They must work in your tech department.
10That's so funny!
11Havn't seen any ugly sweaters here this year. It was 84 degrees 3 days ago though...
12Hilarious! I need to come up with an event. Too bad my hubby's birthday is over. Maybe next year.
13haha what a great idea!
14I am on the Holiday team where I work and we are doing a 'Horrible Holiday Wear' contest... Thanks for the email invite idea!
15Very cute idea. And love the nail polish color!
16I wanna go to a holiday party...my work isn't having one ?!!
17I went to an ugly sweater party this past weekend! it was hilarious! especially since they don't really make mens sweaters so the men were all wearing womens sweaters.
my friends gave out prizes for the ugliest sweater.
