Now that Joe Francis is in jail, the plans for the Girls Gone Wild restaurant are probably on hold. If this leaves you worrying where you'll go for your steak n' legs dinner then fear no more, Maxim Prime is opening in late March. Restauranteur Jeffrey Chodorow — you may remember him from NBC's The Restaurant — has announced plans to open Maxim Prime, a joint venture with Maxim magazine. The restaurant will be located in New York's Gansevoort Hotel and has a scheduled late March opening. Another branch will be located in Atlanta's Glenn Hotel and 13 other locations will open over five years. Chodorow has said that he does not want it to be like Hooters. Instead he has said it will be, "sexy but sophisticated." Unlike traditional steakhouses, the portions will also be smaller and lighter. Chodorow said:
The people who leave here are going to go someplace else — maybe dancing. They're not going to go home and go to bed.
So if you live in the Atlanta or New York areas, be sure to check it out and report back. I want to know what "sexy but sophisticated" is like. I mean they never said it wasn't going to be "sleazy."

Tacky. Reminds me of the book The Sexual Politics of Meat.
1Very interesting...
2so lame. Sexy beef. ooo. Maybe smaller, lighter portions are better b/c the people sitting in a restaurant at Hotel Gansevoort are a lot less interested in food than being seen.
3I find this to be so sad...
4There's a great steakhouse in NYC on the west side (I think in the 50's?) called Richard's, (and it's somehow in coordination with Penthouse) and it has Peter Luger style and quality beef, but with strippers. I find it hysterical, and I love going there. The strippers will feed you your steak!
5First of all 'small and light' defeats the purpose of a steakhouse. If I'm going to order steak I want a big juicy steak and a long luxurious meal...they are probably just saying that so they can charge outrageous prices for smaller portions.
Secondly I don't see how this would be much different from Hooters. If you have ever seen a Maxim cover its not like they even pretend to be classy.
6This is really pathetic! I live in one of the areas one of the restaurants will be opening in and I just dread the hype. I will not be frequenting this establishment, and my husband better not either!
7interesting - but i guess everyone needs a hook and if this restauranteur can get additional backing from a magazine - then more power to him. i just can't wait to see what the decor will look like
8Oh god....my bf will want to drag me to this and then take me on hooters airline!!!!
You know what -- no maxim if I don't get my pinkberry first!!!
9bellasugar - I haven't thought about that book in a long time. But reading this reminded me of the Hustler cover with legs coming out of a meat grinder. I first learned about that cover from Adams' book.
10Completley repulsive. I want to go to eat a STEAK, not be surrounded by sexual inneudos. This joint won't last.
11awww, this was my company's baby until about a month ago when we sold our rights to the Maxim brand...boo hoo....Cindy Crawford's husband owns the rights to a Maxim lounge, we owned the rights to a Maxim hotel, and Chodorow owned the rights to the restaurant. The first one lounge and restaurant was supposed to open in Miami and the first hotel was to open in Vegas. Now that the restaurant is opening, I wonder who will follow through with the lounge and the hotel...
12I live in Atlanta but I haven't heard anything about it. I think their idea of sohpisticated would look like a "nice" strip club. I think it willl definitely be a little sleazy. That's okay, sometimes.
13do you get a free subscription to the magazine with every steak order? what a random pairing.
