When I was growing up my parents enjoyed going out to restaurants and having a nice glass of wine or a refreshing cocktail. Naturally, I always insisted on having one too. I remember thinking how grownup I felt when the waitress would bring me my own drink. There are even stories of me getting so "drunk" I would insist on stopping. Now, before you start yelling and saying "What kind of parents did you have!?" let me clarify. I had an overactive imagination and was only drinking Shirley Temples. No alcohol involved, but all the fun. To make a good ol' classic Shirley Temple of your own, read more

Shirley Temple
4-6 oz of Ginger Ale (I like the strongest kind I can find)
1 oz lime juice
1 oz grenadine
maraschino cherry
orange slice or lime wedge
Put ice into tall glass.
Pour ingredients in and stir.
Garnish with cherry and citrus.
To mix it up, I'll sometimes muddle mint with the ice before adding the other ingredients. When I do this, I'll garnish with a cherry and mint instead of a cherry and lime.

I love Shirley Temples! I had them as a kid as well and boy did I feel grown up. I made one for myself recently ... it was as good as I remembered.
1My Mom would always order these for me when, we had our Tuesday shopping/lunch trips...every month. I loved them. Those were the best days.
2my moms fav drink is the Pina Colada...so whenever she was at dinner and ordered one she would order me one too..boy did i think that was the greatest thing ever!! woo hoo for virgin pina coladas!!
3When I was about eight or nine, my dad and my stepmother took me out to dinner and ordered me a virgin strawberry daiquiri... but just to f*ck with me, they told me that there was liquor in it. So, of course, I thought I was WASTED. What a dirty trick. But funny. They laughed their asses off at me the whole night.
4Whip that is so funny....
5I never really had a Shirley Temple, this should be exciting!
6New Years is close, so this is perfect!
Oh! I used to LOVE these when I was a little girl. I LOVED Shirley Temple, and thought I was so sophisticated when drinking one of her signature drinks.
7I just turned 21 two days ago and I created a new drink that's somewhat like this Shirley Temple recipe. I call it "KRIZIA'S NINJALICIOUS"
It's YumSugar!!
Krizia's Ninjalicious:

1 tsp Triple Sec
5 tsp Ginger Ale
1 maraschino cherry
make sure all ingredients are chilled! add to a tiny cordial glass in the order that the above ingredients are listed and enjoy responsibly

I ALWAYS had Shirley Temples when I went to restaurants as a kid. Another great kid's drink is a Roy Rodgers, which is a Coke with a tablespoon of grenadine. It's really sweet, but so delicious!
