A lot of you agreed that we didn't really need a grape-apple hybrid. However, what do you think of a strawberry-chocolate hybrid? Tokyo-based Fresh Functional Food Composite (FCOM) is using infusion technology to create white-chocolate strawberries and chocolate currants. They first freeze dry the fruit, thus removing any water, and infuse it with chocolate. The company has also previously tested out the technology by infusing apples with red wine.
It all sounds pretty crazy to me — can't I just have strawberries and chocolate? — yet I know I'd give it a try if I saw them on the shelves.
If you're skeptical about the whole thing I should also mention that the company is considering using the technology to infuse food with various nutrients and vitamins.
Now the real question is, will these ever hit the American market?

1I am mkaing chocolate covered strawberries for out anniversary on Friday
With our
Dom Champagne!!!
2Somethings should not be messed with: strawberries and chocolate are two of them.
3These strawberries look so unnatural and kind of gross. I'll still be dipping my regular strawberries into regular chocolate.
I think they should leave food alone... we should eat it in its natural form, the way it was intended to be eaten.
I don't know. The strawberries in the picture look kind of gross and dry.
4This scares me...
5I won't get on board with this. Part of the joy or strawberries and chocolate is the dark, antioxidant rich chocolate and licking it off my fiance's fingers.
6They do look kind of icky, but that's probably from the reconstituting.
I agree that there's no reason to mess with strawberries and chocolate. They were already perfect before and I can't help but feel the whole process takes away something from it, like biting into a lush, fresh berry.
7Not sure about this...I think I'll stick to the chocolate-covered ones.
8not a fan of the infused idea - but i like the covered sort. i'm kind of scared of the apples infused with wine
9I'd try them — much easier to eat on the bus home from work than actual chocolate covered strawberries. And probably less envious stares from other riders, too.
10These weird me out a bit, but you make a good point, Savvy -- they would be a lot less messy on the go!
11Looks, um, interesting.
12Can't see myself becoming addicted to them, but I would definitely try them once.
they look gross to me. I don't think they will ever see the stores here
13The best part of a chocolate covered strawberry is the chocolate shell. I don't think I'd eat these, but I might try them just to see what they taste like.
14Hmm very interesting idea. I wonder what they taste like!
15They don't look very good to me...
16They don't look very good to me...
17Ugh. I eat chocolate covered strawberries for the separate tastes - the healthy sweet acidity of the fruit and the sugary richness of the chocolate. All mixed together would be not so yummy.
