Before comedian Patton Oswalt voiced Remy, the rat in Ratatouille, his biggest contribution to the food world was a shtick about KFC's Famous Bowls. In his routine, he would often refer to the bowls as a "failure pile in a sadness bowl." Although the bit of stand-up even found its way onto Late Night With Conan O'Brien, it turns out that it was all just for show; Oswalt had never actually tasted one of the famous bowls.
To make things right, The Onion's A.V. Club asked him to taste test one. I was expecting the article to become a, "What do you know? They're not that bad after all!" sort of an article, but it didn't. In the end Oswalt can now rightfully hate on the Famous Bowl. In fact he sums it all up into one delicate sentence, "It's goddamn horrible, this Famous Bowl."
So what do you think? Do you agree with him — you should read the whole piece it's pretty fun — or do you think he's full of it?

Famous to who? Rename it as Heart Attack Bowl.
1His bit about the KFC Famous Bowls made me laugh so hard I cried the first time I saw it. I love him.
2I've never had one, but I think KFC is gross.
3I was listening to NPR a few years ago and they named the famous bowl as THE WORST in calories and fat. A bowl of fat waiting to clog your arteries.
4Well I love em. I've eaten it 3 times and I'd eat it again. I don't like chicken on the bone so this is a big winner for me. Yes, it's fattening and full of cholestrol but it's not a daily consumption for me either.
5A fitness blog I just read had a link to an article about the worst foods of 2007 and this was in the top ten. It said that one of those bowls has 870 calories, 44 grams of fat and all the sodium one is supposed to have in one DAY. Now I'm not calorie obsessed but this is a little overboard.
6never had them but that pic looks gross.
7Ah, I heart Patton, I've been listening to his comedy CDs nonstop lately. And this bit cracked me up.
I've never had one, but my boyfriend had one for lunch today. He even emailed me and said, "I had a failure pile in a sadness bowl today." He said it tasted good but made him feel nauseous.
8I haven't/won't have one but they look and sound disgusting.
9So. I tried these. I tried it because the ads said they were sooooo good and they looked good too. Lettme tell you.
10THEY ARE GROSS. Absoutly disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!
I think they are horrible and I've never had one, will never try one and my reason for thinking they are horrible is totally ridiculous. I do not like my foods to touch each at all and this idea of piling one food on top of another then saucing the whole thing --ewww skin crawling.
11Hey wackdoodle I dont think your reason is riduculous because it's MY reason as well!!! food touching so wrong eeeww
12I can't try one. The calories scare me away.
13I hate KFC! And those bowls look even more gross then the chicken alone.
14I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat them but my husband loves them.
15870 calories? why eat one of those when I could just eat myself to death with chocolate for the same amount of calories? let's get our priorities in order here....
16I wouldn't eat it even if I ate meat. It looks like slop in a bowl.
17I really want to cuddle with Patton Oswalt.
18I think they look tasty, I've been meaning to try them.
And just who is this fat f#ck who is making these outrageous comments?? Talk about failure pile in a sadness bowl, look in effing mirror.
19Looks absolutely nasty! I would never eat one!
20They are VERY delicious actually , especially after a long day of surfing...although I wouldn't recommend eating them any more than 2 times a month. I only eat them on days where I am extremely active and need extra calories.
21ugh! just thinking of those things makes my left arm ache and gives me chest pain-I tried one once out of curiousity and I couldnt finish it...its basically like putting your KFC leftovers in one bowl.
22I've never had one but just looking at them makes me queasy.
23wackdoodle,i am the same way. I prefer my food not to touch.
24I love it
Seriously, it's hella good. Gravy makes it better, cheese too.
254BYRDS, hilarious. Punkingirl, thanks for the info. Strangely, I want to try one now though and I usually avoid KFC. My step-father tells me they breed mutant chickens.
26Sadly, I've eaten, and I've loved!
27I've never had one but made the mistake of talking to my best friend about them when they came out. I started talking about everything in them from a point of disgust but she didn't catch that part and continued with how yummy they are. It is pretty sad and funny how we are not on the same wavelength about these.
28HOOIT! sounds awful.
29lyrical_angel I hate my food touching too. That's why I'd never eat one of these. I hate KFC. The one in my hometown had roaches running around. This lady stood outside the KFC with signs that said "KFC has roaches".
30ew, ew, ew!!!
31i clicked the wrong vote.
those are actually the most
disgusting things i have
ever heard of, like, would
you enjoy a heart attack?
i hope those die. vomit.
Ok, so I'm not alone in the food not touching thing. My sister says my foods-not-touching thing is weird. Good to know. I smell a poll...
32have never eaten one, nor do i plan on eating one
33yeah... i'll pass. much better things to eat!
34I've never had one - they look disgusting. I like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and the like, but the idea of KFC potatoes (which taste like they've come from a box) and everything else piled on one another, topped with cheese - Y-U-K!!!
35The commercial for these things *should* be enough to deter people. It looks like the nastiest, most vile melange of food. It's like the SNL skit from a while ago with the taco in a tote bag? Just gross!
36Kentucky Fried Cruelty! Nothing like chickens being thrown into cages, piled on top of eachother, pecking eachothers' eyes out, breaking their wings and legs, and then being tortured on the slaughterhouse factory line before FINALLY losing consciousness and dying, and THEN being fried in a big vat of disgustingness by some high school drop out.
37Yeah, my appetite is RAGING.
Never had one. I also don't like my food in a pile.
38Anything from KFC is disgusting as far as Im concerned. bleh
39I've never had one and I never will -- if I wanted all my food mashed together I'd go to grandma's house for a casserole! Especially when there's fried chicken in it -- YUK!
40KFC fried chicken gives me really bad stomach problems. Their boneless, however, I can eat. These bowls are pretty tasty.
Mashed potatoes, corn, chicken, gravy covered in cheese....what is not to love???
While the calorie count is horrible, the taste is delish. I have always loved potatoes in a box.....I know, that is like a sin, or something. My husband won't let me bring em in the house (see my blog post about the meat cake I made http://teamsugar.com/group/30207/blog/243114)
And what is with not letting your foods touch? Don't they all end up in the same place anyway?????
41i've never had one but looking at it and seeing what it's about - i just don't have a desire to ever go near one. then again i'm a veggetarian - so it's really nothing that would interest me anyway.
42If I had to do fast food, it would be KFC.
43Not interested and I'm never going back to the KFC in my town again!
44Never had one and have no desire for one
45Sounds and looks disgusting!
Me no likey food touching either.
46it looks like a heart attack in a bowl...my dad got one once and i almost threw up watching him eat. And then I yelled at him because he has had a bypass in the past! i know that all of that cheese and gravy isn't helping.
47So... I admit. I have tried the chicken bowl for i have an untimely addiction to fast food which is frowned upon by all my foodie friends.
It is pretty gross, though. I'm not very picky about my fast food either, but it was something I definately couldn't finish because it was too damn salty. It just didnt taste good.
48PS Did anyone see Patton when he was on Emeril Live??? He was so drunk!!
49THE BAD BODY BOWL. My daughter loves this slop BUT I always make other suggestions if an when we ever visit KFC.
