If she doesn't want to get too "footbally", she can always just decorate with a red, white, and royal blue theme - Luckily those are the team colors of both the Giants AND the Pats!
1Neat one!
2Awesome idea for the theme rhin! I need to be a little careful with the team stuff because my sister has already told me that she refuses to eat off anything with the Giants on it
Thanks for getting my dilemma out there Katie!
3Sounds good...my sister will be having a Superbowl bash and I'm sure she could use some ideas!
4Hah - you can serve "pigskins" (mini hotdogs) either in blankets or the usual sauce...
A football field cake would be easy to make - 10 x 13 pan ice it green, pipe the yard lines in white, and put some uprights at either end (hmm...white straws perhaps?) If you wanted, you could probably even find some mini football players as decoration at a party store.
You can have people come dressed in the jerseys of their favorite team - if they don't have one, just in the colors of the teams.
Put some almonds out - football shaped! - the Blue Diamond Smokehouse are delish, as are their maui onion, and the Jalapeno smokehouse yum!
You could get a small prize, and have a pool on what the final score will be - and whoever is closest, wins.
You will probably want to serve something easy to eat - I don't know how much you like to cook - but easy would be ordering one of those giant subs and make the accompanying salads, etc...
I have a salsa cheesecake recipe that is da bomb! Simple to make, different, and always a hit -
Salsa Cheesecake
2 tbs butter/marg melted
about 1/4 c. dry breadcrumbs or enough to coat pan
12 oz. cream cheese, softened
4 oz. roquefort cheese, crumbled
1 cup grated parmesean
8 oz. sour cream
1/2 cup salsa
2 tbs. flour
4 large eggs
1 tbs. cilantro fresh chopped
1 tbs. parsley fresh minced
Directions:
1. Brush bottom and sides of a 9 inch springform pan with melted butter - dust with dry breadcrumbs (about 1/4 cup)
2. Beat cream cheese and roquefort in a large bowl til creamy. Add parmesean, sour cream, and salsa beating just until blended. Add eggs, one at a time just until yellow disappears.
3. Pour into prepared pan, sprinkle with cilantro and parsley. Bake in 300 degree oven for 1 hour and 5 minutes, or until almost set. Turn oven off, crack door, and let cool for 1 hour in oven, then completely on wire rack.
4. Serve at room temperature or chilled (I like it best at room temp) with assorted crackers.
Don't use fruit salsa - I tried it with peach and it was just yucky. Use hot salsa if you want a kick - I use Newmans. It yields about 24 appetizer servings, but I usually just put it out with a knife and let people "spread" a bit on crackers instead of take slices - seems to work better than way. You can also serve it with a sturdy corn chip (like Fritos)
The other thing that is yummy are cheese olives - even people that don't like olives love them - also very easy to make - you know, you make a dough with butter, flour, and cheddar, then surround a pimento stuffed olive with it, and bake? Easy finger food, not messy.
Good luck with your party!
5I think that if you are thinking of a table setting for a superbowl party, there's your first problem! Put stuff in large communal bowls and let people serve themselves while they enjoy the game.
6those mini footballs are adorable
