Last weekend, I hosted a Winter getaway at my vacation house. Seven of my best girlfriends joined me for a wonderful weekend away. On Saturday, after a long hard day of wine tasting, I found myself scrambling, half drunk around the kitchen making appetizers, dinner, and dessert. After dinner I laid down — while someone else did the dishes! — for a minute. Except, surprisingly, a minute turned into all night!
Unfortunately, this was before I had a chance to finish making the dessert. Passing out before dessert is served is not okay, especially if you are the hostess! I was absolutely mortified and contemplated changing my name from PartySugar to PartyFizzle.
Has anything similar happened to you? Has your hostess been a party pooper before the party finished?

Happens to my daughter all the time. She is still a young "Lightweight".
1Oh yes, I had a wine and cheese party and it had been months since I had enjoyed a drink so it hit me hard..and I was out by 9:30. The other host was my boyfriend so it was alright, but I invited an old friend I hadn't seen in forever and I had to lay down about five minutes after he got there!
2omg me too!! Last year, I has everyone over at my place for Easter away from home and I ended up drinking too much and passed out before everyone left (thank goodness i made cookies for dessert ahead of time)... but I feel ya, I was really embarassed and felt super bad.
3I can't say this has happened to me...
4I'm sure your friends don't mind, it happens to everyone!
5I have to say it's happened a few times ... I'm sure your friends understood.
6Haha, YES!!
Although not a dinner party...when I lived with my ex-boyfriend, we had parties all the time. There were several occasions on which I had too much to drink and put myself to sleep before the party was over
I guess it wasn't THAT bad though, because my ex was still up to take care of everything.
7My boyfriend's father did that once. He fell asleep on the couch with wine stained lips. It was hilarious (especially since he was pretty stuffy at other times).
8Haha! That would be me.
9My husband and I had a "Moving to LA" party to say goodbye to all of our friends. He drank too much right off the bat and passed aout before half the guests arrived! There was no waking him up either.
10Yes in fact... just the other day this happen, but my friend passed out before my birthday cake made was served.
11Passing out from fatigue after a busy day and drinks IS OK! You're human.
If I remember correctly desert goes just as well with breakfast as it does with dinner.
Personally I'm all Martha Stewart, everything is all pre-done and staged. All I have to do when guests arrive is pretend that I worked SO DARN HARD TODAY FOR YOU - when really everything was done in advance with military precision the day or days before. Then I sit there and stare at them while they eat because I cannot eat the same thing I cook for my guests and vice-versa.
Ha ha vengeance tastes delicious I'm told!
12I've done this once or twice. Not a big deal. I'm sure you're friends thought noting of it. You worked hard all day and wine can definitely make you tired.
13My sister-in-law frequently vanishes, never to be seen again, when they're hosting!
14I'm sure if these were your best girlfriends they probably didn't bat an eyelash
I've seen my best girlfriends passed out in all sorts of precarious situations over the years. This hardly qualifies as embarrassing.
15Yep. This happened to me on Thanksgiving. I had over 20 people over for dinner - I cooked the entire meal, and all the sides by myself. Did all the pastries, cakes by myself - and had a damn chocolate fountain.
I served everyone, and made sure all the food was kept warm, everything was flowing smoothly - and I had a vodka tonic in my hand the whole time that I hadnt noticed would keep getting topped off. I never had a bite to eat because I was so busy.
I sat on the couch to rest my feet for a minute, and fell asleep. They woke me up though, about an hour later.
LOL!!
16Poor Yum!
This happended to me New Year's two years ago :/
17ON MLK day we invited some friends to our beach house in st augustine, i never drink so when my hubby kept handing me vodka tonics i didnt realize i was so drunk till i climbed the stairs to go get a sweater. My husband said they were all standing around the kitchen and someone goes "where is laura?" and my friend says " i saw her go upstairs, and so they all came upstairs and there i was, face down on the bed ...OUT. i was so mad at myself, i had all the appetizers i was going to make! than Dinner. They ended up just winging it with the groceries i bought.
They gave me a hard time the next day of course.
18Omg Partysugar! Well, at least you STARTED dessert!
I'm sure your friends still
enjoyed it while you were getting your beauty rest. And, as they were with you wine tasting all day, I'm sure they passed out on the couch downstairs with their jeans on too! It happens to
the best of us!
19Oh melicious you are probably right on. Nice thoughts.
