Attention all you candy freaks! Looks like it's time to start pinching your pennies. This morning Hershey Co. said that it will raise the prices of its candy bars.
The price raise is being pinned on the rising cost of milk and cocoa, and Hershey is defending the decision by stating that its products contain more milk and cocoa than competitors. Hershey spokesperson Kirk Saville said:
"While we have no way of knowing what others are thinking, or what their cost situation is, we do know that within the category our products include far more pure milk chocolate and solid chocolate than our competitors."
For a while, Hershey was looking into changing its formula to lower milk usage. However Saville had no comment on whether or not Hershey's is still planning to go down this route.
The price increase will be effective immediately, and it will be about a 3 percent increase across a third of its US candy line. How does this make you feel? Will you still purchase Hershey's candy, or will a price increase make you think twice?

1Thanks for the warning. I better start stockpiling - never know when you're gonna need it!
2I will still buy them, it's not like it's an everyday thing, and I'd rather pay a slight increase than have them change the recipe to something crapier.
3Considering that I can usually find them on sale for like 4 for a dollar, I doubt 3% is a sizeable increase.
4I don't buy the bars, but I do but the morsels for all the cookies I bake. I wonder if those are going up too?
5I don't like Hershey's chocolate. Yuck.
6Hershey's always leaves a funny aftertaste in my mouth. I threw a bunch of it in the trash after the holidays were over. Yuck.
7well, it's good stuff, so if i feel a craving, i might indulge. i don't buy chocolate bars and candy too much anyway.
8i can understand why they are doing it -but if you think about it - it's an understood that you can get a candy bar for less than $1 and now it's not going to be like that. i can't wait to see how it affects their revenue and sales and all that
9I don't buy candy all that often so I don't see noticing a difference all that much.
10I rarely buy candy but I have to tell you that Hershey's already raised their prices in the last year AND the big bars are smaller. Maybe they thought no one would notice?

does anyone know if that whole official "Chocolate" food law went through?
Basically it was saying that the definition of what can be considered and packaged "Chocolate" was going to be redefined to include anything that wasn't necessarily made with cocoa butter (instead big corporations wanted to use other vegetable based fats or something not as expensive...)
Perhaps I should go look into that, I've been meaning to since this was supposed to happen around last Easter or so >.<</p> 12
