Before a Party, Do You Prepare Everything in Advance?

When I host a dinner, barbecue, or any party for that matter, I like to do the majority of the work in advance. I'll marinate meat, prep vegetables, grate cheese, and spoon sauces into serving bowls, all before my guests arrive. I'm a firm believer in doing the bulk of the prepping and cooking beforehand for one simple reason: it makes the party more enjoyable! Instead of slaving over the stove, I can spend time with my guests. I know people have different entertaining styles, and I'm wondering, what's yours?

I prep, as much as I can, before guests arrive so I can spend time talking and enjoying myself and not hiding in the kitchen. And, I hate a dirty kitchen so I clean and load the dishwasher as I go. That way I'm not stucking cleaning all night after everyone leaves.

As long as taste and texture aren't adversely affected, I prep whatever I can. Some things-stews, chili, dips,dressings, sauces-taste better if made a day ahead of time.

I do as much as I can before the party, but I usually forget at least one thing.

I try, but usually still end up in kitchen--which is fine, most people gravitate towards food anyways. :)

Same here. I usually prep everything before (or whatever can be) so I can enjoy myself and not have to be fussing about in the kitchen and getting things organized. If I have large groups over, I even go as far as bringing pasta water to the boil beforehand (if i'm making pasta) and turning it off so when we're ready to eat, the water boils almost instantly and I can throw in the pasta. A little anal, I know, but I hate waiting 15-20 min just for large pots of water to come to a boil.
