A famous wine growing region in France. Known as Bourgogne in French. The name refers to the region where many Chardonnay white grapes and Pinot Noir red grapes grow exuberantly. It is also a generic name used to describe a kind of softer, inexpensive red table wine that is not produced in France.

I thought French-Made wines had protected names, so that no other wine made in the world could be called the same... this goes for Champagne (which is called Sparkling Wine if made somewhere else than in France's region of Champagne), Bordeaux etc... what about Burgundy??
