Coke Testing 100-Flavor Soda Fountains

Good news for you soda fountain lovers: Coca-Cola plans to introduce a machine that dispenses 100 flavors.

The new unit, which will reportedly have a beta launch in early 2009, will remain the same size as an eight-valve soda machine by using highly concentrated ingredients to store more beverages. According to the company, switching in a new drink for the 100-flavor units will be "as easy as changing a print cartridge."

This could take an indecisive fountain drinker's soda-mixing habits to the extreme, or it could have zero impact on a diehard Diet Coke drinker. What do you think of this technology? Is it cool, or does it make a mundane thing unnecessarily complicated?

What would the 100 flavors be? I can really only think of maybe 10 soda flavors... so I'm not sure what else they would use.

I hope they will have a variety of diet sodas. Most places only have diet cola...it would be nice to have some choices!

when I was young it was "cool" to mix all the flavors/sodas together. I can't even remember how it tasted, but it must not have been too gross because we kept doing it! of course that was like 5 or 6 sodas, not 100! I could see this being very annoying with kids crowding the machine wanting to try every flavor!

i think that this is kind of interesting - and i don't know how cost effective it will be - but it's a fun thing to try. i know that for myself - i usually just stick with one flavor but i'm guessing that if you're not sure what you want - this could lead to quite a bit of time standing at the fountain trying to make up your mind.

I'd be alright. If I don't know what I want, I go for Diet Dr. Pepper every time.

Could be fun! It'd be cool to have more diet options available... Sprite Zero is SO good, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Sunkist... yummy!

I'm not too sure about the 100 flavors. I know my friend whom has a brother that works in the executive offices of Coca Cola will be running like hell when he brings a sample of those flavors to her house. Last time he brought the Cinnamon flavored Coke she drank it, looked at him pointly and said, "Quit messing with my cocoa cola!" Like all younger brothers whom never listen he will most likely bring over those new flavors for her and the family to try lol.

i'm not too exited. having been to the coke factory (hello! free soda in 64 flavors!), i know that after the origional 4 or 5 flavors, it tends to get really gross. especially the beverly (vomit)

If I'm not mistaken Disney World actually have a little Coke area in one of the parks, and it has a taste testing area for Coke and I believe it is Coke from different countries!

Since there is a chance that they'd put Diet Sprite (Sprite Zero) in it, I'm for it! It sucks drinking diet at home but sugar laden at burger joints! I wanna spend my calories on french fries, not soda! ha ha ha

:jawdrop:No, I would not be able to deal with that. But it would be cool to see lots of different, small-manufacturer or maybe foreign sodas at soda fountains. That seems like the only way to be able to have 100 different varieties :ponder:Ooh, I've just thought of about 5 different Taiwanese sodas I'd love to get at fountains here.
