In what could be the strangest morsel of food news this week, a Virginia man named Chris Coleson has lost 86 pounds since December by eating nothing but McDonald's. Aspiring to be the Mickey D's equivalent of Subway's Jared, Coleson ate a "diet" consisting of McDonald's "salads, wraps, apple-walnut salads, and the occasional cheeseburger."
McDonald's isn't planning to sign Coleson as a spokeperson (oddly, the company has Heidi Klum endorsing its wraps in Germany). If McDonald's paid you, would you go on Coleson's diet?

Adidas
McDonald's can make you lose weight
1Noway, what was he eating before!
2reducing calories + increasing exercise = weight loss
doesn't matter what you eat.
health is another story
3Like I voted, they'd have to pay me a LOT. I'm not ashamed to say I can be bought.
4No way - there's nothing at McD that's that good - maybe a chicken salad but that is way high in calories and once again - not that good.
5Good for him if he managed to lose weight, but why would I depend on a place like McDonald's for that? And weight loss from something doesn't always equal being healthy.
6i mean he muat have only been eating salads- i'd get way bored with that
7that sounds disgusting! i agree with TidalWave...it's not really rocket science to lose weight (not that its easy)-- it's all about calories in vs calories out. but i can't imagine what all that over-processed food did to his health.
8As long as he exercised and drank mostly water, I don't see the problem! Then again, this is coming from a girl that has [twice] eaten Mickey's for a week straight...best week[s] ever. Mmmm.
9I highly doubt his claims. I dunno - doesn't sound healthy to me anyway.
10how horrible must ones eating habits be to actually LOSE weight from mcdonalds? imagine how bad this person ate if mcdonalds was healthier in comparison? thats the only way this would be possible, unless maybe they worked out like it was their job since starting this "diet".
11groooooss
12I don't support fast food joints. I wouldn't eat their food even if they DID have a few 'healthy' options.
13I do think that there is a good point to this story. That you can make better decisions when you eat out. This guys diet is extreme, but there is a McD's by my office, and I always hear people in the elevator saying, I never eat fast food, but since everyone was going I got xxx super fattening burger and fries.
14good for him, he lost weight.
15but in my case I want to gain muscle and lose fat. Plus I will get sick eating the same thing everyday. gross
Fork no! Not a huge fan of Mac and Don's, and I couldn't stand the repetition of the same few things over and over again. After several months of salads, he won't be able to look at one for quite a while, and will most likely fall back into his old eating habits. A person can have so much more variety, better tasting food, and save money by simply cooking at home. And working out. It's not rocket science!
16i think my eating habits now MUST be better than any diet of Micky D's..
17but i admit this article has me craving their ranch chicken crispy wrap thing
I'd rather starve than eat an all McDonald's diet. The only time I end up there is on a road trip, and I'm always challenged as to what to eat. In my humble opinion, everything on their menu smells and tastes the same. It's whatever they cook everything in. Blech!
18not to mention EWW
19Give me the $1 menu!
20No effing way would I eat a diet of McDonald's food; I only have their food maybe once-twice a year (I haven't gone yet since Aug 2007.) I call most of their food "heart-attack on a bun with a side dish of clogged arteries."
21Also, did this guy even bother to watch the documentary "Fast Food Nation"? That alone should have scared the s*** out of him (I already knew that fast food was fatty however that film still brought even more awareness.)
22I meant "Super Size Me" not Fast Food Nation (although that movie also brings awareness.)
23Surprisingly enough, McDonalds has really cleaned up their menu and modified it as to make it healthier (in a sense that its healthier than other fast food, not particularly healthy FOR you). Their portions of food are also pretty accurate so its easier to order a menu item and not over eat. I believe that this person lost weight by eating well portioned and semi-balanced meals at McDonalds because in all reality if you do that with ANY meals whether its at mcdonalds or at home you would get the same results. I think this just goes to show that if you eat the RIGHT way you can eat anything you want.
24This would not work for me. I can never order the healthier options at McD's after I've smelled the fries.
25Yeah, I'd take one look at their awesome fries and be like like "see ya salad!"
26bleh Burger Kings fries kick Mc Donalds fries arse!
27there is just no way that this would work for people. and i love mcdonalds french fries btw! but a whole entire full fledged "diet" of mcdonalds. no thanks.
28wrong, and may I add, unhealthy!
29No, I don't like McDonald's light (or regular) menu. My own cooking is tastier, healthier, and more nutritious.
30Ewwwww.
31Look up the 4 year old cheeseburger from McD's. Their food is just wrong! I am not anti-fastfood but to McD's I say No thanks.
32really not into fast food. except the occasional late night run at taco bell.
33The smell of fast food restaurants makes me sick so I'm saying no.
34He was consuming some crazy amount of calories (I think I read in one article close to 5,000 calories a day?). He went on what nutritionists call a Starvation Diet and cut back to 1,200-1,400 calories a day... not recommended for a man of his size even now that he is down 86 pounds. But, if you look at his healthy choices, they aren't that different from what my friends who diet eat: salads, wraps, occasionally a cheeseburger? Would you go on that diet at any other restaurant- even a healthy-labeled restaurant? Probably, so what's the difference that he did it at McDonald's?
35If it was proven I'd lose weight then heck yea I'd try it but since that is probably not the case it ain't gonna happen.
36Never, for three reasons.
371. I'd feel like I was lying to people by telling them McDonald's was healthy and a great way to lose weight.
2. How expensive must that have been?
3. I bet his cholesterol is through the roof eating their deep fried chicken with ranch dressing on a flour tortilla every day. There's no way that starving yourself and only eating processed everything is good for you.
Mcdonald's is gross. When I think of it the image of Morgan Spurlock finding a hair in his fruit and yogurt parfait. Yuck with a side of yuck!
38For those who are not reading the article, this is important:
He said he's healthier by the numbers, too. Dietitians have warned him that he's likely lost muscle mass and needs more variety in his diet. But Mr. Coleson's cholesterol, which has not been below 250 since 1993, is down to 239 today from 277 in December.
Which means that his cholesterol is not through the roof!
Also, I am sure that eating two meals at subway every day for a year was waaaaaaay more expensive than doing the same at McDonalds.
39ugh gross.....I'd rather starve than eat that garbage.
40No. No. No.
41absolutely not! i haven't had mcdonalds in years, and i plan to keep it that way!
42I can only imagine what that guy smells like now.
43I wouldn't use McDonalds as a diet plan
44why are people so against mcdonalds?? i get it, it's not super healthy but a cheeseburger every so often won't kill you... loosen up! if you're watching what you eat, salads aren't the ONLY option. get a grilled chicken sandwich without the mayo, and please don't complain that the bun isn't whole wheat...
i'm proud of him, wherever he is...
45the guy was probably fat in the first palce and eating really bad food everyday
46hen cuz he was eating just salad wraps he lost weight
