Do You Care About Nutrition Information?

A couple of days ago California passed a law that requires chain restaurants to post nutrition facts. I think this is a great idea, but honestly I rarely check out nutrition information because I avoid processed and fast foods. However, I was wondering about you? How conscious of calories, fat, and sodium are you?

yea i remember a few years back a chain here had the calories listed and it was just not fun. all i wanted was a guilt free indulgence and after looking at the calories that was very hard to do!

I always check nutritional info but I'm not on a strict diet.

I try to not to be too obsessive but I most definetly make a consciou decision to read them.

In New York, we have this in a lot of restaurants and truth be told, I HATE it. I'm not on a strict diet or anything but usually when I do decide to meet up with friends and go out to eat, it's as a treat to myself...I don't want to worry about my caloric intake at a restaurant because I don't want to feel guilty that the menu item I picked has 1,000+ calories...but when the number is staring you in the face, you can't help it and I usually end up enjoying my meal a lot less or ordering something I like less, just because there are fewer calories in it.

Same here Rebelkate. I'm not on a diet either however I feel that when you take time to read the nutrion facts, we will end up a healthier person. It was a wake-up call for me 3yrs ago when I realized all the cr*p chemicals the industry was passing off as "food/ingredients."

I care. I always read the nutrion information. I want to know exactly what items and the percentages of fat, sodium, etc are going into my body.

I ALWAYS read the labels but not because I am on a "strict diet". I just want to know what nutrition, fat, calories, fiber, protein I am getting out of a food. Sometimes new things look good but when you read what is in them (or not in them), I put it right back on the shelf.

I've been reading labels on my food ever since my dad took me to the grocery store and told me the only cereal we could buy was anything with fewer than 10 grams of sugar per serving and it had to have at least 2 grams of fiber. My sister and I always thought it was a cruel way of preventing us from buying Lucky Charms, lol. I ALWAYS read labels to see what I'm getting in my food. Fortunately, I eat a lot of really natural, whole foods that don't have labels. Fruits, veggies, eggs, etc.

Well, I don't consider it being on a strict diet to want to eat healthily, so I didn't check any of the choices above. But I read labels, always.

It's just a habit I've formed to check the label on anything i'm not already familiar with. I think it makes a small difference on the individual level, but the cumulative payoff is a big one.

Yeah I always look out for high sugar content, type of oil and if there is MSG lurking around... But I wouldn't say I'm a fanatic on this.

yes - i always look at a package for a new food to see what's in it and sometimes i'll re-read things that i know the values in case they update what they are valuing the foods at. i think that aside from being on a diet, it's really important to know if you're getting enough of the key vitamins since so many people don't realize why they are sick, tired or depressed.

Hell yes, I always read the nutritional information. I'm a bit of a nutrition geek. I consider my body the most valuable instrument I own, and I'm very concerned about what I put into it. There is an updated nutritional information label that I appreciate. It breaks down the fat content even more. It calls out the good fats -- polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. I LOOOOOOVE that! Incidently, that nutritional information label in the photo is frightful. A SINGLE serving has 22% daily fat?? 20% of SATURATED fat?? 3.5 grams of TRANS fat?? My arteries are clogging just reading that. Sorry, that is not something I would buy to eat.

I always look as members of my family had health problems and now we are very careful of what we put into our body. You can be surprised by the amount of sodium (which can cause heart problems among other things) in a can of veggie soup, trans fat in prepared rices, sugar, fructose and such in biscuits or breads( watch out for diabetes). Believe me. It can make a difference and you view what you were usually eating in a whole new way.

I always read the label but I wouldn't say that I'm on a strict diet. It'd just part of the new lifestyle I'm embracing - knowing what I'm consuming and what the correct amount is and how much energy said food is suppose to provide me.

I read the nutrition facts but the ingredients lists are probably more important to me. I'm not any kind of diet, I just like being healthy.

i definetly read labels. for calories, nutritional info, high fructose corn syrup and aspartmane. i like the idea of seeing the calories posted at the major chains. it would make me think twice of getting a large or something over my limits. if people want high calorie food they're going to get high calorie food, that's their choice, but hopefully it opens their eyes a little.

I started reading labels regularly after I realized there was high fructose corn syrup in my ketchup -- it made me feel tricked! I started reading the other nutritional info then too. I'm less adamant about it when I go out, but I did stop frequenting Quiznos when I realized they didn't make any of their nutrition info available. (They might offer it now, probably because of laws like this -- I'm not sure)

I just read cause I like to read, no I'm not on a strict diet unless you wanna call it a seefood diet. I'm more concerned what it's made of, I know what's good and bad for me.

I always think it's important to look into what you're eating. If you don't look into what you're putting into your body so you make an informed decision. Is that 3000 burger really worth it? I like to think about how long I have to run on the elliptical to burn off the calories. It stops me from eating a lot of stuff. :) http://foodieandfork.wordpress.com
