Do You Collect Recipes?

Over the weekend I moved into a new apartment. Since I had to pack up everything in the kitchen, I decided to use the opportunity to organize my recipes. It took me several hours to sort three years worth of recipes that I had printed or ripped from magazines. I only then realized, I'm a recipe collector! How about you?

Instead, you should should chronicle all the food you cook electronically ... oh wait. ;) I don't cook enough, but my mom has always pasted recipes she has either cut out or written out into a binder. I believe it's in alphabetical order, too ...I wish I got more of her culinary and organizational skills!

Oh yep yep yep! About two shelves worth of cookbooks, notebooks and recipes! And since I'm obsessed with saving paper I print everything doublesided, which makes it impossible to organise in a folder. Talking about notebooks I just got Shirley Corriher's Bakewise yesterday and I'm OBSESSED! :P I was actually reading it in bed last night cause I couldn't stop!

I have all of mine neatly organized in a notebook based on what it is (appetizer, side dish, dessert, etc.) I keep them all in clear file pages so that they are easy to clean when cooking. I also have a little address book where I write down great recipe locations (ie: under c I have my ginger CHICKEN with peaches recipe, located in foodrus oct. 2007) This is especially helpful when a recipe comes from one of my many cooking magazines that I just can't bear to get rid of. Has anyone tried the Demy, a digital recipe reader? It came out last May and is supposed to house these loose recipes for us.

I can't believe nobody has commented on how crazy a stack of recipes that is above. I have collected a lot of loose recipes, but nowhere near that many!

i think i have a word doc with all the recipes, but the harcopy ones.. maybe say 2? and one was written too!

i absolutely do; whenever i find a recipe i like, i cut and paste it into word (or cut it out of a magazine) and i print out the recipes after some time. before i was cuting each recipe out and pasting it in a marble notebook but i think im going to just compile them from now on and staple 'books' of recipes lol. its hard work organizing and pasting! not to mention how thick the book gets and you can never find your fave recipe after that

i have a three ring binder with those plastic page holders and my recipes are organized by the vague ethnicity of the food: Italian, Asian, Mediterranean, Mexican, American, and other. PS I'm completely shocked that I'm one of the more organized recipe collectors!

I've just started up my own collection, already it's a mess. XD I'm terrible at organising myself so I've got desserts shoved in next to meats shoved in next to seafoods next to a wine guide. I do however also hoard recipe books.

I've started doing so recently, and most end up as a folder full of bookmarks on my computer or printed and strewn about. Only the tried and true ones I've just started keeping together online through tastebook.com

Guilty as charged on all counts. :) I have roughly 200 cookbooks, several website files, email folders, and an obscene amount of trees has probably been destroyed by the sheer volume of recipes I have printed from my computer.

I collect them in a kitchen cabinet with my cookbooks. My problem is getting them all organized so I can actually find something when I need it.

I don't have a HUGE collection of them, but I have a ton of cookbooks and cooking magazines in my library as my cooking reference go-to spot.

I have three main places where I hoard them: an online bookmark folder labeled recipes, a desktop folder labeled recipes, and with about 8 magnet man clips on my refrigerator. The fridge is the worst: instead of putting them on recipe cards, I just buy more magnet men!

I am not so organized. I print them and put them into a recipe drawer in the kitchen. There's probably at least 100 recipes in there.

I collect recipes on my computer. I bookmark them into folders. First there were categories in a recipe-folder, then sub-categories, then sub-categories in the sub-category & so on...

Not only recipes, but cooking related information especially technique tips and eqiupment tips (like how to maintain a cast iron pan) and I organise all of these if fabulous little folders according to theme; although I shouldn't I also take recipes from magazines in waiting rooms, especially those I don't buy myself, like Good Housekeeping

Yep. I recipe hoard and I soooooo need to organize them. My godmother has a kick *ss recipe collection which is extremely organized by meats, veggies, diabetic, lactose etc. Color coded and everything. One of these days, when I have the time. . .
