I'm to the point w/ cooking that I hardly measure...I think it's best to go by one's best judgement - Pretty much what filmgirl81 stated.
I would teach them the basic how tos (such as mirepoix is this item, this item and this item and this is what it is used for. Now go!)....But it's up to them and their tastes on how they
would like their dishes to be done.
I like teaching most people, but I hate trying to teach my husband how to cook because he never listens to me and thinks HIS way is obviously better, even though it isn't.
I do, I try to teach my husband how to cook and I would be more than happy to show my sister. I'm a bit of a control freak and not a very good teacher though, so I'll usually take over and
let them watch or be a naggy teacher...but sometimes it's fun.
