There are some party planning professionals who believe you should never try a new recipe when hosting a party. I'm not one of those party planners. I think it's exciting and fun to experiment with a new dish at a party. If it's not great, I don't feel bad, I simply explain to my guests that it was a test. Reader AmberHoney agrees; yesterday when describing a recent dinner party menu, she said, "Always new recipes. Our friends are all foodies and we love experimenting so it's never the same thing twice." Exactly my sentiments, Amber! How do you feel about the matter?

if it's not too complicated i will
1It kind of depends on the size of the party, the amount of time I have and so on. I'd try new recipes if they don't look too complicated and stressful - parties are supposed to be fun, and that includes the preparation.
2Sometimes.
3I'm with komler 100 percent!
4I sometimes even turn them into experiments. Just last night I made skewers as an appetizer. I did half with cantaloupe and half with peaches and asked my guests to taste each and tell me which they preferred.
5I always try something new, even if it's just a side dish. I've never made a meal with only tried recipes.
I'm still looking for new stuff to throw on the grill for a BBQ this weekend
6I usually test run a new recipe with my husband and I to see if it needs tweaking before I try it at a party. My mom has such a bad habit of making the exact same two dishes for every dinner party she ever has...she's terrified to try anything new at all.
7I always try to bring something new to the table. Apparently I was just designated the dessert bringer to parties so I'm always surfing the web looking for things that I would enjoy and test with the crowd. So far, everyone loves what I have brought, majority fo which I've gotten from Yumsugar
8i only try new recipes when we're having company over. they're usually more complicated than our go-to usuals, so we always joke that me and my husband aren't worth the work of trying a new dish!
