Spring started on Saturday and along with longer days and warmer weather, I look forward to the new produce! The farmers markets will be filled with the bounty of the season, but do you know which ingredients reach their peak in March, April, and May? Find out now and take my quiz. I love the quizzes and Yum, but why do you insist on capitalizing the season? They are not capitalized. :irk:

I agree with Beth Mi and Paulasmithy - Cherries are definitely summer fruits. That's why the National Cherry Festival is in July - when the fruit is ripe!

We in Florida look forward to the Strawberry festival in March but of course it moves as weather gets warmer. As regards figs, they actually have two seasons, one of which is spring. I have never seen a cherry in spring either (cherry blossoms, yes, of course) or at least they aren't available in the markets that early here. We get them in June.

Cherries are definitely a summer fruit, like all stone fruits.

Have to agree, Cherries usually do not come out until Summer here.

I disagree with some of them since I live in the Midwest and we have a different season compared to the likes of California or Florida. I know in Illinois cherries and strawberries does not taste right until June. It is usually cheaper at that time. Never had fresh figs in my life so I don't know what their seasons are.

Cherries are ripe in August or so in Michigan...definately not in the spring.

My family owns a grocery store so many of these weren't all that hard, I was stumped on the strawberries though because around here Strawberries peak in Jan and continue until early summer.

I agree weffie! As a NYer, the best time for strawberries is early summer. It's the only one I got wrong.

Those despised dandilion greens on your lawn are chockful of vitamins, nutrients and taste like baby spinich this time of year ( Right NOW until mid April): Try them steamed briefly and then added to stews and soups.
