Why would anyone think this was yummy?!?!?!?!?! It is the most foul tasting, black nastyness in the world. It needs to be banned worldwide now!! Before anyone else is tainted!!!

Black licorice is a necessity for me. Not something nice, although it is.... I love chocolate, I love caramel, I love lottsa things. But I don't HAVE to have them. I HAVE TO HAVE LICORICE... BLACK LICORICE. NO OTHER CANDY, RED OR OTHERWISE, QUALIFIES. THAT'S IT!!!

I like Black Licorice but in Paris on Blvd St. German at a candy stand on the corner in front of the Odeon Theaters you can purchase when the have it (whenever I am not in town) the best Black Licorice candy I have ever tasted anywhere. It is creamy, smooth and black as coal but it is not at all like the black licorice strings or gummy bears. It is like some time of really creamy smooth black licorice candy. It can't be that difficult to make I just wished I could get the recipe. Then I would truly be in Love with Black licorice. Man I was spending 15Euros per day on this habit and then they ran out. I went through withdrawls I was so addicted.

It's one of my favorite spring candies. I went gluten free, due to allergies, last year. Last week, I had licorice for the first time in a long time. I didn't know that it has wheat in it until my tummy went nuts after I ate it. *wince* Oops.

I used to think I hated all forms of licorice, black more so than red, but then I tasted some quality chocolate-shop black licorice, and it was delightful! So I decided that I guess I'm a quality kind of girl, none of that Red Vines/Twizzler junk for me :-)

iloveana - when my nephew was in Europe last week he was offered candy by the ton. When he was in Zurich it was chocolate and licorice. In Austria, licorice and more licorice. He was the one who 6 years ago fed my Mentos collection by bring several rolls of licorice Mentos back to the US for me. They're in my closet making it smell kind of yummy. Anise tastes similar to licorice (at least what Americans think of as licorice) but its not where real black licorice gets its flavor. European Licorice is flavored by the licorice plant root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - American black licorice is weirdly flavored with Anise and occasionally licorice root. It's weird because we Americans really altered the original black licorice and made it our own. We come up with something that's pretty darn close to the original but not quite.

I hate licorice candy in all forms (black, red, jellybeans, etc.). They're all GROSS. I do however like a few things that are flavored with Anise. The company I work for sells Tortas (Spanish Crisp Bread) that are flavored with Anise Seed and Essence of Anise, Sugared and Topped with Almonds and oh my lord they are TO DIE FOR.

haha wackdoodle, licorice Mentos is totally my favorite flavour but then again, I do love licorice! The thing is, most actual licorice today doesn't really taste like anise but rather like a salty kind of candy...if that makes sense!

yeah its true, there is no such thing as "red licorice", the only real licorice is black and tastes kind of like anise. Its actually very popular is Europe but I guess its a flavour you have to grow up tasting a lot for it to be delicious

Yuck. I don't like it. And whoever asked about what seed had that flavor, I think it's anise. I have cooked with anise before and it wasn't as potent as the licorice so it was okay, but still kind of gross.
