Do You Like Chard?
May 12 2008 • By
I chose what is chard but if it's what is on my mind then I adore it!
I actually had some for dinner this evening - sauteed it in olive oil with loads of garlic, onion, lemon juice, chickpeas, lots of crushed red pepper and a bit of salt and pepper, served on top of some brown rice... Mmm!
It's great if you know how to cook it.
Never heard of it.
I dislike it.
I love it, but I like lacinato kale even better.
It's good, but I get massive amounts of it in my CSA box so I'm already tired of it this year.
Mmmmmm, I LOVE chard. I actually bought a bunch of it today when I stopped at the grocery on my lunch break.
It took me calling 6 different stores but I found it! The first 5 thought I was playing a teenager prank on them ("Yes, I was wondering if you carried chard") Will try it tomorrow.
i don't know if i do or don't - i'm sure that i've had it but i can't remember specifically when that was...so i'm not 100% sure.
sounds yummy! Now when I get my check on Thursday I'm on a mission for some chard =)
anniekim - swiss chard is the same thing. It's also known as Silverbeet, Perpetual Spinach, or Mangold, but I've actually never heard to it referred to as those three. The flavor is more bitter than spinach, but not as bitter as arugula (in my opinion). it also becomes less bitter as you cook it.
So delicious. I think swiss chard is the same thing, though I could be wrong. It's sweet and the stems come in a variety of colors - white, yello, red. Like kia, it's good sauteed - I make it with some rasins and a bit of cider vinegar.
How would those of you who like it describe the taste? I've never heard of chard in my life until today...lol!
I have always heard it called "swiss chard"--or is that a different vegetable?
I love chard lightly sauteed with shallots and white pepper then topped with a drizzle of sesame oil at the end. Put that on some rice and I am in heaven.
I'm going to google the nutrients. If it's good for me, I'll make it part of my veggie rotations.
there is a posh sandwich place near my office that includes chard in their salad boxes, i love it!
I don't care for it too much...my father grows it in his vegetable garden, so I eat it when he serves it. But I don't buy it myself in the grocery store. I like spinach better.
I've never had it. It's almost impossible to find here. I'd love to try it though.
Chard is leafy green that you need to cook - sauté, steam or put in soup. It is super tasty – better than cooked spinach.
no, seriously. what is it?
