Do You Like to Get Dirty When Cooking?
Jan 14 2009 • By
I dislike handling raw meat...I try my hardest not to have to put my hands in it. That's the only time I find myself getting "dirty" is when it comes to meat. When I bake, I get flower on myself which I don't mind really.
I hate to get stuff on my hands! My husband says that's why I'd make a lousy mechanic...I don't mind all the machinery stuff, but I do NOT LIKE getting things on my hands. If I'm cooking and I absolutely have to get my hands dirty, I wash them off right away. If I could wear latex gloves while I cooked, I probably would, lol.
I feel like I am really cooking if I am hands on, literally. I love kneading dough or rubbing a chicken, there is always soap around.
It does depend on what I'm making. I also cannot stand a dirty kitchen. I've been known to make a huge mess with flour and suger everywhere, but it's cleaned up as soon as prep is done...sometimes I'll stop mid-prep and do a mini-clean up. I don't mind getting my hands dirty with butter or grease, or meat, or whatever else, but I do find that I wash them every time I go to touch something other than the food item getting me dirty. That has me washing my hands A LOT when I have to "handle" a food to prepare it.
I wear gloves when peeling veggies but the rest of the time it's barehanded. Even when kneading sticky dough or gutting fish.
I'm a chemist. In chemistry, we are careful to never get our hands dirty (because its dangerous!). Since my cooking habits are kind of an extension of my chemistry skills, I generally keep my hand pretty clean. But sometimes, hands really are the best tool.
I like to cook, but I hate getting dirty b/c that means you have to clean up!
**through = throat ** mommy to a 9 month old = sleepy :)
I love getting my hands dirty! I hate when places use latex gloves. I'm allergic to latex and it sucks for my through to get all itchy.
I think that's one of my restraints for cooking...I don't mind baking so much. xo
Love to when I'm baking. I like to need the dough with my hands. With anything else I think it's kinda gross
It totally depends, but either way I'm always super quick to clean up afterward. I hate having a messy kitchen.
not really but it depends on what I am doing.
I'm not to keen on it. I'm an obsessive hand-washer so that's probably why. When I'm making something in the kitchen, you will find me with wet wipes in hand, just to wipe out any mess, too. I am completely anti-mess.
sexylibrarian I do the same thing. When it comes to raw meat I wear disposable gloves but when it's veggies or baking I don't mind getting my hands right into it!
Not a matter of loving it or hating it - getting dirty while cooking just happens. And by getting dirty I mean I expect to have dirty hands, dirty dishes and dirty counters when preparing food. However, since my dad went to culinary academy after his military time he drilled it into my head to 'clean as I cook'. Apparently, out of 5 children I am the only one to hear, comprehend and obey this instruction from my dad. My sister cannot understand how I managed to cook her entire Thanksgiving meal including a cheesecake, red velvet cake and coconut cake as well as homemade rolls and pumpkin pie and the rest of the meal and there was never a dish in the sink or a mess on the floor or counter tops. She said I'm a genie.
Of course! It's fun ... unless you have cuts. (Only exception.) By the way, I can appreciate the Texas glass with the image of the Texas Capitol on it.
I don't mind getting dirty when I cook, I just can't stand to touch raw meat (which just cracks my mother up for some reason). Latex gloves are my friend!!
I'll roll up my sleeves and get my hands in there to spread a rub on meat, mix up a meatloaf, or knead some dough, but I wash my hands pretty quickly right after.
I'm not keen on mixing raw meats with my hands so I wear gloves for that, but if I'm kneading bread, definitely! :)
I don't really like to get my hands on egg-y or meat-y. It's kind of gross and then I end up having trouble getting soap out of the dispenser without contaminating the dispenser. You know what I'm talkin' about, right?
No.... I wear latex gloves when i'm handling certain meats and only because I have long nails and I don't like getting food under them.
No - that's why I got married JK. Really though hubby does all the messy work - I add spices to burgers, he makes burgers, I mix up the rub, he rubs and he rubs well ;)
It depends, although it is annoying to have been handling raw meat and then have to do three or four things right after all the while trying to turn the faucet on with my elbow and get soap out without using my hands or fingers. :rotfl: That's usually when I call for hubby help! ;)
