Mulled Wine: Love It or Hate It?

While I'm absolutely crazy for sangria, I'm not a huge fan of its wintry counterpart, mulled wine. Sure, I'll enjoy a glass on a very cold night at a holiday party, but I won't go out of my way to make it. There's something not right about hot wine.

How do you feel about it?

A friend invited me over for a Christmas celebration. Her father, a first generation German, had made mulled wine. She knew of my aversion to wine, as well as most other hot beverages. She quietly pulled me aside and told me that her father would be deeply offended if I didn't partake. It was a bit like death on wheels, but I managed to finish a glass and thank him for his gift.

Oh yeah I love the German version of it, which is called Gluehwein. It has red wine, dark rum, sometimes fruit juice and spices such as anise and cinnamon. There's also a white version with white wine, white grape juice, white rum and the same spices. Om nom nom :)
