Do You Own a Popcorn Maker?

With awards shows like the Golden Globes and the Oscars just around the corner, I'm trying to catch up on all the big blockbusters I've missed this year. Watching all those movies (and consequently eating all that popcorn at home) makes me really want to purchase a popcorn maker, but I simply can't bring myself to buy another single-use appliance. Do you own one?

had one when we were young but actually never used it ... so we just stick with the old pot/stove interface.

I just pop mine in the microwave--no air popper required (though it would be easier for popping large quantities & I do miss owning one).

My all time favorite snack is popcorn. Thought about getting a popcorn maker but they take up valuable counter space. I just use pot on my stove top with a little vegetable oil. Taste great no salt or butter needed.

My dad bought my mom an air popper one year as a gift, because we made popcorn 2-3 nights a week on the stovetop in our house. I think she's used it, like, twice - it just doesn't have the same flavor. And microwave popcorn? blehhhhh =[

Growing up as a child my family had one. I barely remember it, but do know it was a large looking machine. Loved the air popped popcorn at home. Hmmm. must learn how to do the stove top method.

I own an air-popper but I don't think I've used it in at least 10 years. I use the microwave kind instead. But I think the most flavorful popcorn is made on the stovetop.

yes, two, and have broken them both. i now just cook it oil-free in a non-stick pot though sometimes i really crave that softer, airy texture of air-popped popcorn.

Even when I could properly digest popcorn I didn't have one. I was eating it fairly regularly, but enjoyed Pop Secret's 100-calorie bags.

I own an air popper, and love it. I use it multiple times a week. Sometimes I add butter, but I also like to do other toppings like hot sauce, harissa, nori and wasabi powder, so it's great to not have the added oil if I want a healthier snack. It tastes so much better than the microwave bag stuff, and I haven't had much luck making popcorn on the stovetop. I do something that makes mine come out soggy.

I'm so afraid of burning kernels that I'm always the person who pulls out the popcorn 2 seconds prematurely. I'd rather have a handful of unpopped kernels than a whole bag of burnt popcorn!

It seems silly to own one now, but when I was growing up I used to get SO excited when my dad whip out the popcorn maker (except when he burned the kernels).

I found a popcorn popper at Walgreens for about $6 so it seemed worth it. I pick up the kernals at the farmers market along with butter, and I grate some cheese with herbs. Sometimes I'll brown the butter or add truffle salt.

You don't need a separate popcorn maker. Just use a large, deep pot with a lid. Put on some oven mitts and shake the pan every so often. I do it all the time.

I am a popcorn fanatic. I have actually burned out popcorn machines. I love it for a healthy snack, sometimes with a little white cheddar powder but usually just lightly salted. I have the Cuisinart one with the popcorn bowl and I love it. It really is a highly addictive snack for me.

I own one because my husband brought it into the household. Yes, it's a single use appliance, but we do use it quite often. I don't know if I'd buy a new one if it broke, though. We always put butter on our popcorn (shame, shame, I know), so I would probably just as well make it in a saucepan with some oil on the bottom. Same result, and takes about the same time.
