Do You Smuggle Food Into Movie Theaters?

When I made microwave popcorn the other day, it sparked a conversation in the office about sneaking food into movie theaters.

Considering the majority of you like to eat popcorn at the movies, I'm wondering how many of you sneak in your popcorn? While I've never done the deed, I have plenty of friends who do, because store-bought popcorn is a fraction of the cost of movie-theater popcorn. I will admit to occasionally having snuck in my own candy and water, though. Fess up: Do you sneak food in, too?

Not only is the food too expensive, they don't have snacks I like. So I head to Target and bring my big purse :)

i definitely bring my own food, but to avoid feeling really guilty i bring things that aren't typical theatre fare. i pack my giant sigg water bottle and then craisins and cashews or a muffin. the theatre i go to most here has a bar and some different foods though - sausage and cheese plates, fruit and cheese plates, cappuccinos so if i do buy food it is usually delicious.

sometimes. I only smuggle in food that I can't buy from their stands.

We have on occasion, but it's usally just candy. We love the theater popcorn and fountain soda so that we would not sneak in. But we have brought in burgers before.

my friends and bf love my big purses. we have smuggled burritos, burgers, candy, chips, hawaiian fast food (curry chicken katsu, rice macaronni salad), soda, water, brownies, cookies. . . i have the ultimate mary poppins bag. :-D i also have known people to bring in alcohol. ::shrug:: it's all because theatre food is way overpriced and pretty much unhealthy. sometimes i get a craving for their popcorn tho and immediately regret eating it cuz it gives me an awful stomachache. last time the man and i went to theatres to see Dark Knight we brought in blueberries, strawberries, water and cranberry juice. i think we're progressing :)

I sneak in a 20 oz Dr. Pepper on occasion, to those big movie theaters. Mainly because they seem to think Mr. Pibb = Dr. Pepper. Not true! An exception is for the Angelika theater ( http://angelikafilmcenter.com ). I always buy their overpriced stuff. First because they actually have Dr. Pepper, and second they show films that matter to me, ones I can't see just anywhere.

yep....thats what my big purse is for!!! lol. but i really LOVE movie theater popcorn...and since its a rare treat...i usually get the popcorn...but bring a bottle of water

I sneak food for health, variety, and cost. Yum, I've seen parents in the movies with sandwiches, chips, and juice boxes for their kids. They were having a feast.

When I saw the new Batman my BF and I smuggled Chipotle burrito bowls in the theatre in my big purse.

I usually don't eat at the movies, but I've done it before. Last December I smuggled peppermint brownies from the vegan bakery that my friend & I love.

I usually bring a bottle of water with me, because I think it's ridiculous to have to pay $3 for WATER, it's something we all need, and if I bring my own then I don't have to share. Sometimes I might bring candy too, but I would never bring microwave popcorn. Theater popcorn tastes better anyway, even if it is overpriced. Our theater used to allow us to bring in anything though, even like Panda Express or Starbucks or ice cream, especially if the food was from the mall right next to the theater. Unfortunately they changed their policies right after Century was bought by Cinemark and now we can't bring in any food from outside the theater. And they took out the electronic ticket machine, so now we have to wait in line like everybody else :irk: Damn Cinemark.

in my hometown, walmart was just down the street from the movie theater so whenever we had extra time to kill before the movie, we'd make a stop at walmart and pick up some 88 cent boxes of candy... the SAME candy the were selling at the theater!

Yes. My everday handbag is quite large so I can really fill it up,lol. Pretzels, Cracker Jacks, Kettle chips, Kashi cracker, I always take one of the above along with a water bottle (my Klean Kanteen which I secure VERY tightly, put it in my bag right before I go in the building and remove the minute I'm in my seat since I fear it will leak.) However sometimes I will splurge and buy nachos when I feel like giving myself a treat.

I went to the movies today at 4. Let's see....2 tickets $18...soda and regular popcorn $9.75...$27.75 for 2 to see a movie. Granted they need to pay their bills but if they charged a little less for food they might sell more. Their cost for popcorn and a fountain drink, including labor is probably less than $1.

Yes, I do this as well - usually gummi bears, sour candies, or Twizzlers - and a bottle of water or iced tea. Occasionally popcorn. I've never been "caught" (I kind of think the theatre employees don't really care that much, since movie tix are so high-priced anyway) except for one theatre when I was visiting some friends in L.A. - where they did a purse check and then asked me to please leave my "candy purchases from another store" at the front desk to be re-collected after the movie!I said "uh, no, thank you," and went to another theatre. :)
