Do You Use Place Mats?

On Friday, I had friends over for dinner and busted out the place mats for a casual, yet sophisticated table setting. Problem was, everything on the menu was berry-themed, so throughout the course of the meal, I watched all of my pale green mats get obliterated with cherry juice! I'll be honest: In hindsight, I sort of regret using them. After all, wiping down my wood table would have been so more practical. Do you use place mats?

i really love them and wish i can use them every meal but they do get messy and the costs add up if you want to match the placemat to the table or tablecloth

Nobody uses tablecloths anymore? I hate place mats because crumbs get everywhere but I can't eat without a tablecloth. I have a wood table and I'd hate to see it get ruined or stained and clean up is quick, just shake it out on the lawn.

I like them. I have ones that wipe clean and they actually help to keep my table cleaner than if I didn't have them.

I used to use them, but it just became a hassle. Yes, they're pretty, but not so much after I make lasagna and sauce gets all over them. It's just easier to wipe down the table. For decoration, I'm thinking of maybe getting a table runner than I could either leave on during meals (provided it doesn't get in the way of the place settings) or take off. I'd like one with rich, Indian colors.

I use them daily, for every meal. Actually, except when I entertain, unless I have themed ones. For entertaining, I generally use a tablecloth.

I used to use them all the time until had a kid, then it was just one more mess. Haven't thought about them in a long time, thanks for the reminder. I like the way they dress up a table without being formal. Spray and wash or Shout should get out most of the cherry stains.

I said no mainly because I don't own any. Maybe I'd use them for festive occasions if I had some though.

my mom used them sometimes when i was little, but I always thought they were a little unnecessary because they just got dirty and were something extra to wash.
