Do You Use a Silpat When Baking?

Although I do plenty of baking, I have yet to use a Silpat when making cookies. A Silpat is a nonstick, reusable, flexible baking mat. I know they're more environmentally friendly than parchment paper, but I simply haven't tried them. How about you? What's your experience with Silpats?

My aunts and cousins who are avid bakers only bake with these, they have many! Sometimes you can find them at TJ Maxx :)

Andistar, you are a genius- I never thought of using it to roll out dough. I have one, I <3 it, and it makes cleanup a snap. And for those talking about it being expensive, buying roll after roll after roll of parchment paper is expensive. I promise you won't regret it.

I love my slip-mat! it does everything. I first used them in school when we molded caramels and chocolate. I find it very useful for baking, although i prefer not to use food on them, unless it was a pizza dough.Either way, worth the price.

No, but I do use these reusable silicone sheet things that I bought from QVC about 13 years on a huge roll. You can cut them to any size and I even use them for mac & cheese, lasagna and the like cause it makes clean up a breeze; I just pop the sheets in the dishwasher and I'm good to go! Plus it was really cheap considering I still have more than enough even if I live to be 100.

i broke down and bought one silpat for 20 bucks....they ARE too expensive.... unless $ is no object of course... then i found a place on Amazon that sold a knock off for way cheaper so i bought 4 of them the down side... in a way.... is the cheaper ones are very thin but they still work the same way..... i tried parchment paper one time and it almost burned up......i don't' know why and i have never used it to bake again,,,, it freaked me out the paper turned black and i sure don't need a fire in my oven just to bake cookies....

I have the German equivalent, which works great, but it's so flimsy that it's really annoying to clean. I may get a silpat soon.

they really are great...i wish i had more, but they are pricey...i find parchment generally works as well for baking, but silpats are nice to have for dough and fondant rolling...i have actually never used mine for regular cooking (chicken, potatoes, etc.) for some reason

I have one, but I want two more! They are a little on the pricey side, but worth it, in my opinion. Nothing, literally, nothing sticks to them. I use the one silpat I have for kneading dough by hand if I have to, baking cookies, roasting potatoes, even for making chicken covered in some sticky sauce. I pretty much use it for everything, and it's used every single time I throw something into the oven. It helps to have more than one because I can definitely smell some lingering food odors on it, and I'd prefer to 86 the chance of having my cookies taste a little like chicken. I wish you could use soap on these things. It's totally worth the cost, and I will never cook without one again.

I believe i have one, but i don't know where it is and I've never used it I love my silicon baking stuff though so I'd probably like it but my parchment paper is just so handy next to the stove!

I got one last Christmas and have been using it but I'm not that impressed. It's gotten so dirty despite me cleaning it and last month I accidentally caught it on fire when I touched it to the top of the oven. I finally gave up and tossed it.

I use them for baking on, but also as a place to knead sticky dough or roll out a pie crust. The dough doesn't stick, making those tasks much easier.
