What Food Best Describes Your State?

US Food Map By State My Food Looks Funny just released an entertaining pictorial that represents what America produces and eats, state by state. Although a lot of them are pretty accurate, I'd say some are up for contention. (Jelly pie in Arkansas? I would've thought cheese dip.) What's your state's quintessential food?

haha pharm_chick...we are originally from Long Island and are just loving the change...however, while I've eaten my fair share of lobster, we do miss NY pizza dearly :)

OMG jelibeann im also from NY (and NJ) and moved to Maine!! haha what a coincidence! and i agree with NY=pizza, and basically Maine is known for only one thing, lobster lol. i think its less of a food thing and more of it is what it is.

Wisconsin: Cheese. It's a no brainer. Could've gone with beer or brats and been just as right.

Bloody hell I cannot try to read small print that early! No wonder the pic wasn't a piece of meat. Boy do I feel like a freakin' moron. Buffets works for Nevada.

Mmmm... CA. It's the cheese. Bah, CA has a lot of great foods, and not just yummy grapes. I agree with CA avocados. amazing!

Buffalo for Nevada? Maybe up in Northern Nevada but I've lived down here in Vegas for quite a while and have never eaten buffalo.

Tomatoes for TN? Where did that come from? I'd have gone with Moon Pies or Little Debbies. (Checking Wikipedia's List of U.S. State Foods, apparently tomatoes are the official state fruit of TN. I still don't know why. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_foods )

I agree with lilkimbo. Maybe Cincinnati Chili for further south, but I would have definitely gone with Polish Boys or Perogies. And being from NY originally, I really really really miss the pizza.

Haha, filberts FTW! It's called the "Filbert Festival," not the Hazelnut Hoedown. I thought it would be salmon for Oregon though.

LOL, I absolutely can't stop laughing that they have "hazelnuts" for Oregon. We don't call them hazelnuts here! They're Filberts!

kbussanich, I pretty much agree, although I went to school in Ithaca, and they had some pretty good pizza (And restaurants!) When I think of upstate NY, I think of Rochester's Garbage Plates and Buffalo's...well, buffalo wings!!! I also think of great deli sandwiches and bagels! And diner food! And now I'm hungry! haha

Correction: I don't think Cincinnati chili is really an all-of-Northern-Ohio thing. I don't doubt that a lot of people in northwest Ohio see it as part of their food identity.

I don't think Cincinnati chili is really a northern Ohio thing. Sure, it's popular there, but it's not a food I would use to identify the region. I'm originally from NE Ohio and I say a Polish Boy is the most "Cleveland" food I can think of. I also associate perogies with Cleveland. I do think Cincinnati chili is pretty nicely representative of Southwest Ohio (or perhaps all of western Ohio, but certainly not NE Ohio). I currently live in D.C., which gets the shaft again! I would definitely nominate Ethiopian food as the food of the District, though. (Or perhaps half-smokes, although, I kind of think they are what tourists think of as the food of the District, as opposed to people who actually live here.)

I'm from Arkansas, and I've never even heard of jelly pie! My vote would be with rice or cheese dip.

Mmm... pasties, so good. Cincinnati Chili is a northern thing in Ohio too. I lived in Michigan on the Ohio/Michigan border and it was fairly popular there.

Cincinnati chili is a southern Ohio thing. I would go with clam bakes or fish fries for Ohio in general.
